May 1, 2023 - This shop completed several repairs, including Wheel Bearing and Seal replacement. for a total of $934.68. The truck had ****** miles on it.Sept 29, 2023 - This shop completed an oil change and general maintenance inspection. During this inspection the shop identified issues with the wheel bearings that needed adjustment. The Truck had ****** Miles.Dec 27, 2023 - While traveling down the interstate, the drivers side wheel bearing blew out. On the side of the road, I removed the wheel and inspected the issues. I found that the rear wheel bearing was completely destroyed. Upon further inspection, the wheel hub did not appear to be adequately greased. Upon attempting to repair the wheel bearing, the spindle was too swollen to get a replacement bearing installed. I had the vehicle towed back to this shop for warranty repair. Tow cost was an additional $337.00. Truck had ****** miles.Jan 2, **** - The shop completed the repair but would only warranty the parts for the failure. The shop blamed the parts failure on a defective part and refused to acknowledge any issues of their craftmanship or quality of work. They charged $470.00 in labor and miscellaneous parts that were not covered under their warranty. This issue was directly caused by improper installation from their shop.

      Good Afternoon,

I'm responding to the message around the filing of this complaint with an update.

I wanted to let you know that the business did reach out to me directly.  This issue has not been resolved as of yet.

Additionally, there has been another issue  with this shop discovered and directly linked with the original May ******* and January *******.

The shop completed repairs to the Driver side Wheel bearing as noted in the original complaint on January 2, ****.  As I was traveling to the shop, the ******* person called to discuss previous conversations about quality and lack of proper lubrication being the cause of failure.  The shop and I agreed that they would keep my vehicle for another day to inspect the passenger side wheel bearing for similar issues.  I received a call on January 3, **** stating there was no issues with the passenger side wheel bearing and the truck  is ready to be picked up.  As stated in my original complaint.

The shop called me directly after receiving the complaint on January 4, ****.  We discussed the issue at hand at length and some other quality issues that have happened with this shop prior to this incident.  The owner of the shop offered to review this other issue further, but declined to take any further responsibility for the wheel bearing failure.  I told the shop I would think about this and discuss it with my wife prior to making any decisions.  The shop further called me on January 5, **** but I was not available to take their call at the time and they did not leave a voicemail or message.

January 6, ****.  I brought my vehicle into my shop for further inspection.  Upon further inspection of the Passenger side wheel bearing, it was found that this side suffered from the same installation issue  that the drivers side wheel bearing had.  The inspection revealed that the grease was not installed adequately (per manufacturer / OEM specifications).  Further,  the shop had used my purchased grease that was in my truck to lather on the outside of the outer wheel bearing and dust cap instead of shop material.  After removing the rotor assembly, the grease that was installed from the original installation was completely burned up in the inner bearing and inner rotor assembly.  The inner wheel bearing is stuck to the spindle due to swelling from excess heat.  The passenger side wheel bearings are not "Good" as the shop noted and will need to be replaced in addition to correcting and cleaning the damaged spindle and rotor assembly.  This is the exact same failure as the driver's side with the exception that the wheel bearing did not explode yet.  The passenger side wheel bearing will fail prematurely and my truck is currently not safe to drive.

In addition to this issue causing my vehicle to be unsafe to drive, this also put me, my family and other drivers safety at risk.  My family was stranded on the side of the highway for hours due to this failure.  When the shop had the opportunity to correct their mistake, they not only charged for the repair, but falsely documented their inspection of the passenger wheel bearing and attempted to cover up their mistake.

I have returned the call from the shop today, but have not yet spoken to the shop about next steps.  Based on the January 6, **** inspection, I will be requesting the below financial compensation including the original $470.00 as noted in the original complaint.

Refund / Reimbursement requested: total of $1,210.87.Plus any associated tax on *******s and material.  Details below.
Invoice - May 1, 2023 -  1 hour of labor, half of the shop material, and 1 complete set of wheel bearings / seal - $242.90 plus any associated tax

Invoice - Sept 29, 2023 - 1 hour of Labor and Tax associated with ******* to tighten wheel bearings - $160.00 plus any associated tax

      Invoice - Jan 2, **** - ************** , parts and labor - $470.00

Reimbursement for tow costs - $337.97

      Thanks,
      ***

After speaking with *** on Monday, I was willing to give him his $470 back. However, ****************** said that would not suffice. Furthermore, ****************** demanded I give him more money. He also stated that after he picked on January 3rd, **** he went home to double check our work and pulled everything back apart. He said the driver side was done correctly, but the passenger side looked like it only had **** miles left on it before it would explode. He also stated my Technician went through his truck and took his grease and smeared it on the passenger side wheel hub to make it look like we fixed. I asked him "how can you tell?" His response was "I know 100% for a fact because of the color of the grease!" I told ****************** that we have cameras throughout our shop and that I would get back to him.

After reviewing the video footage you can clearly see my Shop Supervisor who has over 30 years experience take off his passenger side, pulled the wheel hub assembly apart to inspect the bearings. You also see him walk to our parts room to grab OUR GREASE TO REPACK both inner and outer bearings. You also see him torque the axle to specification which is 21-ftlbs (while rotating the hub) to set the preload on the bearing. Then you back the nut off ******* degrees while spinning it. Then tighten the nut back to 18 inch pounds. We also rotated the tires because they were flat spotted really bad making a lot of road noise at no additional cost. ****************** did say the driver side was done correctly. My Supervisor did the passenger side the same exact way.

Why did ****************** pay the $470 and sign a receipt saying he agreed? Why wouldn't he state his case when he came to pick up? Why wouldn't you pay with a credit card and just dispute the charge?  I  have been more than willing to work with him because I want to make sure my customers are taken care of. These are some of the principals I've lived by that built this business for the past 10 years. However, I won't be extorted. Making a false allegation saying we used his grease to smear it on to make it look like we did the work is completely grotesque. We have live video of EVERYTHING that disproves his allegations. Furthermore, he has no warranty at all with Hoosier Diesel because he's already pulled everything apart. How do we know if he put it back together correctly? Going forward I am ceasing all further communication at this point and will re-direct him to my attorney. My attorney is aware of the false allegations and will reach out to *******************

I am rejecting this response because:

I asked this business to cover this issue under warranty from inital get go. The business refused to budge on the payment to  return my truck.  I need my vehicle back and paid this business in cash to avoid further charges.  This business charges a percentage  for credit card.   I have all  pictures, videos and the passenger side  wheel bearings as evididence and I will be  consulting my attorney for review and filing a petition with the  court.

Wait just make sure you don't lie and tell the whole story.  I did offer you the $470 and you refused! Have a nice day and blessings to you and your family!
