I bought a used car from this Tom Wood location. I signed the contract and in an attempt to make sure I didnt find out the car was a lemon, they asked to keep it to change the tires and batteries. When I went to pick it up, the check engine light was on, but they said because they kept it for 5 days it was beyond the 2 day **** to cancel. So then I went to pick it up even though I knew it was a lemon, it wouldnt start. So we had to leave a second time and picked it up a week and a half later. And the check engine light came on again, so back to the service department for the third time in 3 weeks. I dont want the financial burden of this sale I feel is fraudulent and Tom Wood was aware of the mechanical issues and the initial hold to hide the mechanical issues and the timeframe in which I could cancel.

This vehicle was a fresh as-is trade and she bought it before it was through the shop, thats why we kept it here to do battery and tires. When the check engine light came on at pick up we kept it and found it needed plugs and coils. We replaced those for her as well even though she bought it as is.  About a week later she came back in with a check engine light again, this time we found that the cat converter was bad. We informed her that we would fix this for her but this was the last repair that we were going to perform for her due to the vehicle being as-is

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This car, *********************************************************************************** a feeble attempt to cover their tracks. This car has been in the shop for 8 or the 10 weeks since it was purchased. I was told they sent it to the service department at Tom Wood Ford on a prior occasion only to find out that was a lie. There is no circumstance in which a business as large as Tom Wood would not have the means to repair a car with a check engine light on at pick up. We did not drive home, we were still on the lot. Tom Wood ********** has the means to diagnose and repair but simply failed to do so. The check engine light has been on 4 times and the battery dead at service pick up twice. And instead of fixing the problem, they hand off to Tom Wood Ford and refuse to cover the expense. Thy have known if the mechanical issues with this car all along and simply did not repair them. While $2000 is nothing to a car dealership, it is a lot to a 23 year old who lost her job because the car she bought has never been repaired and should have never been sold. This car is parts only and Tom Wood ********** was well aware. They have taken advantage of out time and money and we have suffered as a result. Even a car bought without a warranty should have made it off the lot on day one. And the fact that they changed the battery and spark plugs but refuses the $2000 repair proves that they know they should be held responsible.

      Regards,

      *********************************
