We signed a roofing contract with Schmucker Quality Construction on July 26, 2022. They called and scheduled to come out to do the repairs for us on August 23, 2022. They did not show up to begin work, nor did they call to inform us that they were not coming. My husband ***** called them. They said that it had been moved to Thursday, August 25 due to materials not being ready. Our materials were delivered to our driveway on Wednesday, August 24. My husband took Thursday off to be here for the workers. They did not show up until 2pm that day. They completed our entire roof repair in under 3.5 hours. When they left, I noticed that they had taken a planter out of one of my flower beds and failed to put it back. They also had smashed two of my plants in our walkway flower beds. The next day, my husband noticed ****** large cut outs in our new drip edge installed by Schmucker in 3 different spots. He went into the attic, and noticed foot holes through the wood slacks that they had just covered up with shingle. He could see writing on the back side of the shingles through the holes, so we have pictures of where moisture barrier was never laid. We also have a gutter that is hanging where it looks like someone stepped and never fixed. We called Schmucker several times about the areas of concern. They have sent out the same repair man 4 different times with no notice to us, but he stated that he does not want to put his name on the mess that they have created. He did reinforce the holes in the attic, but does not want to fix anything else. We do have his #. He has stated these concerns to the company themselves, but nothing has been done. The project manager has come out, but gave my husband the run around about how things are not as bad as we think they are. Another supervisor came out to meet with ***** and pointed out several areas that need redone. We have called the Building Inspector and had notes put in our file. Schmucker said a bill was sent but it has not.Business response

We understand how these events had caused a delay in the completion of the job that was signed and agreed upon with our company. We have been in the process of switching to a program that will allow us to do our job in a better, most efficient, and effective way, in which it allows us to service our customers to our best abilities. However, with the changes our company has been making to better serve you, there has been some miscommunication and confusion played on our behalf. We would like to apologize for that as well as do what we can to better our company and our services to our greatest customers.Please allow us to address your concerns within a timely manner and to correct the issues that caused the issues at hand. I am rejecting this response because:
We feel as if this company is doing the bare minimum to repair what was broken by their roofers. We are just asking to get the quality of work that we were promised when we signed the contract. They show up when we are not here without warning, and expect us to be able to leave work to accomodate them. It should be the other way around. Roofs are investments, and I do not trust what was placed onto my home.Business response

We had those guys to install the roof and the damage brand new window trim when was not even a year yeah all they sent one of the employees out here to fix it didnt do a very good job the caulking crack within a week so Id rather have the people who install the windows to come out here and retrim the windows I called those guys and talk with them they told me somebody would call me its been two weeks havent heard anything from them ******** renewal install the windows I have pictures of the damage done by Smuckers constructionBusiness response

Dear ********************,
We do apologize for the damage that happened to your window trim. To our knowledge it was the aluminum wrapping that was damaged from a shingle on the tear off. We did have that replaced on 5/13/22. The crew let us know they had to redo it several times to meet your specs. Per our text and phone conversations approximately a few weeks after the repair was made your main concern on the repair that we done is the caulking is now cracking. As that is normally out of our control since that is product and not workmanship. If you provide us the new caulking you wish to use we are more than happy to reseal it.
According to our knowledge the roofing that was performed on your property has been completed to your satisfaction.

I am rejecting this response because:
I watched him repair that window trim the first time they did it it wasnt up to my satisfaction so I let them know and they told me that they would re-trim the whole window and I went out there and looked at it i point out several things that was wrong with it I didnt say I was satisfied I didnt say anything and went out the week after they had installed that trim I went outside looked at the window all the
caulking was cracked Im not satisfied with there work I want them to get a hold of ******** Windows and replace it And to charge Smuckers for it but have ******** people do it so its done rightInitial Complaint

On 7/20/21 Schmucker and I made arrangements for their company to install a deck, exterior door, new siding, facia, soffit and gutters on our home. ***** Schmucker advised that they would start the Job within a couple weeks. After a couple weeks and a couple no-shows they did show up to install the deck and exterior door. The door is improperly installed and continues to have large gaps allowing outdoor air in. While waiting for them to show up and start the siding job, people would show up unannounced to look over the job. This is when I discover that Schmucker had no intentions of doing any work but would sub-contract out to what I am assuming is the lowest bidder. After discussing the job with Schmucker, his project manager ****** *** contractor A and subcontractor B I was advised of a start date of August 31st. I left work to meet them and the crew was a no show. I was advised again of a start date of September 13th. The crew didn't show up until the 15th and they were hit and miss after that. Many days they would not show up and many days there was only one person working. There is always trash in my yard, nails in my driveway. I have asked many times for a completion date without any answers. Last week they guaranteed me that it would be completed and it is not. As of Monday 11/9/21 the project has not been completed. I asked for an update and have not received one. 4 months is excessive. I just want the Job completed.Business response

We do apologize agian for the time frame it took on your project. 2020 for us as well as anyone in the construction trade has been a huge success as far as being extremely busy. We really did struggle to get a good but reliable crew that will do fabulous work on your project. We are experiencing (as well as most companies) an overload of work with a huge lack of good workers. (Due to folks taking advantage of the generous government handouts)
As of today 11-24-21 Everything is settled and Schmucker is completed with the project. *********** is happy with the quality of work that was performed on his home. *********** (As well as Schmucker) is just a bit disappointed in how long it has taken to finish.
Agian we apologize for everything but we are happy to turn your home into one of the best on the block.!

The project was to be a tear off of the roof and front/rear porches added. The contract was signed 6/24/21 with the understanding that a call to start would be given before hand, it was not and they just showed up one morning (07/29/21). When working they left holes in the side of the house letting water in and damaging the house. They came to resolve the issue 8/7/21 but more water leaked in 8/12/21. Photos and a video are documented. The damage has still not been corrected. Some electrical work needed to be done, so work may continue. The building inspector of Auburn came out and gave the electrician the green light. He then proceed to tell me that a permit for the city of Auburn was not filed. I had to file the permit myself with an email stating SQC would handle all permits. The inspector then informed us that some work still needs to be done before final approval. Work only moved when txt or phone calls were made. A week project has turned into a 3mo. project. Can email more infoBusiness response

First off We do sincerely apologize for the way things have seemed to drag out on your project. As we all know in this current time of 9/21 the market for everyone in the construction field is very crazy busy. With the lack of good employees that are willing to work it can definitely be a real struggle to keep up with the supply and demand. So we do really appreciate understanding and patient customers.
When building the porches we needed to remove siding and that did allow water to enter in at several locations while waiting on the metal roofing crew to install the roof. We did get there then and installed a tarp to prevent anymore.
I thought we did make it clear to the ********* that we will 100% take care of the damage. I did say several times that after the project is completely done we will sit down to discuss what is the best route to take on the repairs. I do apologize if I was not understood correctly. Never the less we are now completely done with the project and are scheduled to meet with the ********* today 9/22/21 to resolve any issues we have on the damage from the leaking. Appreciate your patience *****.
The not having a permit issue for the 2 porch roof extensions is completely on us and our mistake. We will reimburse the owner for any fees he may have had. I just spoke with **** at Auburn building department and he gave me the needed info to correct so he can get the final inspection passed.
So to my knowledge Schmucker Quality Construction and Mr. Homeowner will have all issues resolved.
Again I do apologize for any lack of communication and any other issues we may have caused during this project.
