In the last 2 months we have taken both our suburban and dodge truck to this business to have transmission work done. We got the suburban back first after paying close to $1500. The suburban kept making a noise so we called and told them. They would say oh it's nothing put some transmission fluid in it. It never stopped. Finally the transmission went out again. I took it to a different company and they said the torque converter fell out into their hands due to it not being put in right. We then get the truck back before this happened. Now the drive shaft fell out while we were going 80 mph on an interstate. We have it taken to the same place that we took the suburban to the second time. They said bolts were not tightened down and some other mechanical stuff I didn't understand. The second company called All-**** to see if they would cover the second repairs and were told they had documentation of the damage and shotty work. He just got rude with them and said he would not because we took it somewhere else. Well we tried telling you something was right and you told us to put transmission fluid in them. I think he did this on purpose so we would have to come back and spend more money at his shop. He is also very discriminatory to my disabled husband. He refers to him as the "diabetic cripple in a wheelchair" instead of by his name.

      Business response

      07/18/2023

I apologize for the late response. The severe storm event on June 27th took out our computers, internet and wi-fi systems for over a week.                                                                                                Concerning the Dodge our response regarding repairs was  " If the customer expects warranty repairs, they will have to get it back here."  I'm sorry if Precision Collision did not relay that to you. I called back to Precision Collision to offer to pay the tow to bring the vehicle back to All-**** from their shop. Before I got that offer out, I happen to ask about the transmission supplied by ****************** on their Chevrolet. I was told it had failed because we didn't install it correctly. When I asked what was the issue, I was told the the torque converter had fallen out of the transmission when their technician had pulled the transmission back from the engine.  I was waiting for more but the explanation stopped there, " what did you expect it to do? "  The person on the phone said we hadn't " locked"  the converter in. In 55 years of business, I have never heard of what they were talking about. In fact, when you look up the transmission replacement procedure on All-***** a technical source commonly used in the automotive trade, it says that, " The torque converter must be held to the torque converter housing by a retaining device such as shipping brackets. Without a retaining device, the torque converter may slide forward, disengaging the oil pump, or MAY FALL COMPLETELY OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION causing personal injury and/or property damage. "                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          This person went on to explain the " 3 clicks" locked the converter. I was absolutely dumbfounded!  " What are you talking about? "  " You know, the 3 " clicks" when you install the converter."      I couldn't contain myself. Those " clicks" are the alignment of the input spline, then the stator spline on the pump and finally alignment of the converter hub to the inside of the pump drive gear. There is NO locking action. The converter can be pulled out or fall out at ANY time. Further, I explained, that had we NOT aligned the splines and pump gear we would have INSTANTLY destroyed the transmission pump. This can be verified by going to JUSTANSWER a website. On Sept 9th, 2008 GMTech ******* wrote "Usually, when the topic of improper installation is brought up, its regarding the engagement of the pump. When you first slide the convertor in, it quickly engages the turbine shaft (first shaft) and after some turning and wiggling, it will engage the stator shaft (second shaft) and this puts the torque convertor just below the bellhousing line, which appears to be correct, however the pump needs to be engaged as well, which puts the convertor in deeper by another half inch or so. Not having the pump engaged makes the convertor contact the flywheel and when the bellhousing bolts are torqued down, the pump gets crushed, The failure is immediate( no engagement of gears and noise).

We would never have been able to road test it after the installation. The customer would not have driven the vehicle home and around these many weeks.  Since they believed something was blatantly not true, I was not prepared to accept their diagnosis of anything on either vehicle. If anyone reading this still doubts me, please call the Automatic Transmission Service Group or the Automatic Transmission *********************** Both nationally recognized trade associations, Locally you may call ***************** at *************************************, four time technician of the year in the Mount ****** Napa area.  When All-***** JUSTANSWER,  ATSG, ATRA, ***************** and 55 years of personal experience all indicate that the ******* were given incorrect information, I cannot see any liability on our part.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     But to be fair, let's examine the Suburban transmission.  We only recall a phone call from ******************, stating the transmission  was running hot. I explained their should be only two reasons it would run hot, a) it had a leak and was low on fluid or b) the transmission they had purchased was slipping. If the latter he needed to contact his supplier right away for them to replace the unit. We asked ****************** if he had checked the *** level and if not, to do so right away. We offered, free of charge, to look it over to double check that there were no leaks. The vehicle was never returned to us. There were no other phone calls. ****************** picked up his Dodge approx. 2 weeks later. This would seem to have been a perfect time to have us recheck anything on his vehicle.   IF there truly were noise issues, why wouldn't they have called whoever they bought the transmission from?
