  Over the course of 4 years, we paid ******************* at Design Construction over $30,000 for a rental unit that was illegally leased for residential use in a commercial building (2019-2023). The property was not up to legal standards: no fire exit, unfinished interior, the 20+yr old oven was removed and not replaced for over 6 months, there is no smoke detector which is illegal in the state of Indiana, among other constant issues. They also illegally turned away a prospective tenant due to their disability and wheelchair use, because the property was not up to accessibility standards and Design Construction refused to bring the property to *** standards as required by law. Maintenance was never performed on this property owned by Design Construction. Tenants constantly received harassing letters from Design Construction over the businesss anger for receiving repair requests from tenants. Additionally, installments done in the apartment were DIY such as the carpets that were installed without the use of a sealing machine which secures carpet joints. Or, repairs done to the plumbing work in the apartment which were done using ******* how-to videos within earshot of us (tenants). As of September 2023, Design Construction refuses to acknowledge the illegality of their actions (and lack of action). Not only this, they are systematically refusing to remit security deposit payments to tenants, citing damages which are the result of poor property management from Design Construction. Essentially, Design Construction has spent next to nothing on the maintenance and upkeep of their property, and they choose to illegally hold lessees responsible for the negligence and disrepair of their own making. Aka if you improperly install carpeting and plumbing, you cannot hold renters financially responsible for Design Constructions corner cutting. I hope everyone will stay far far away from this business and its illegal practices unless you find joy in bringing lawsuits.

  Unfortunately, one of Design Construction's most insidious tactics is to blatantly lie. I believe that consumers should be thoroughly forewarned of this very-poor business practice as no consumer wishes to do business with an organization that employs lying as a core function of their practice.

   

  As you can see from the photo evidence provided, I, *****************, share the exact same address as Design Construction on my official Indiana driver's license which proves that I have unequivocally done business and leased property with Design Construction. The additional photo provided proves that Design Construction also shares the address at 256 Indiana Avenue in **************. And, county auditor reports prove that Design Construction is the owner and operator of the entire building at 256 Indiana Avenue. 

  Design Construction needs to be held accountable for their terrible business practice and no one should have to endure this company without thorough forewarning in order to make the most well-informed decision possible about the risk they are taking with this business.

  Hired Design Construction (*******************) for a large remodel of my home (kitchen, multiple bathrooms, flooring, basement). Project started in November 2021. On March 24, at approximately 60% complete, and with Design Construction having been paid more than 80%, ******************* began refusing to speak with me. He has refused to respond to phone calls, voicemails, and emails, and has refused me in person at his office. This has now gone on for nearly 4 months, with minimal to no progress on my home. He refuses to speak with me or resolve any open issues.He has not paid vendors for material that he confirmed to me had been ordered months ago, and the cost of which was used as justification for my payments to him. He has not documented change orders, has not asked any clarifying questions, and has blown through his budget (or lied to me about current spend). ****** refusal to speak with me has been disrespectful, unprofessional, and has left me with no recourse other than to make professional complaints and seek legal counsel. He still refuses to speak with me. My home is not able to be lived in. Not a single room in my house that was under renovation has been completed. And I do not know when this issue may be resolved. His refusal to speak with me, after paying him $135,000, is a failure to perform.I chose Design Construction because I perceived them to have a good reputation in the ********** market, owned by the family who owned *****************, and because I knew their lead ********* did good work at a previous employer. I was wrong. ******************* has proven himself to be untrustworthy in business and cannot be trusted with your home.
