When it comes to hiring a contractor, one expects honest, competitive rates, and fairness. Unfortunately, my experience with Wheatlands did not meet these expectations. Upon accepting their proposal, I ensured my insurance covered sewer repair and provided Wheatlands with the necessary paperwork a month before the project began. Regrettably, the paperwork was never submitted before they started the job. After completion, I had to get them to fill out the paperwork, only to have my insurance claim denied due to issues caused by a cable company's negligence. To add to the frustration, I later discovered that several other contractors would have completed the job for a fraction of the cost. Seeking clarification, I requested a detailed bill and was astonished to find charges for 30 hours at $95 per hour for a team of five, despite the actual work lasting only 2 hours and 16 minutes. Additionally, a seemingly exorbitant $600 charge was imposed for a small section of rock. Their justification it was a bid job not an hourly job. So make sure when you accept a contractors proposal it is for hourly rates. When I expressed my concerns about the fairness of these charges, I was met with a response suggesting that I had accepted their bid without explicitly stating it was contingent on insurance. There was no acknowledgment of their failure to submit the insurance paperwork in a timely manner. In sharing my experience, I hope others can learn from my costly mistake. My advice: shop around, obtain multiple quotes, and don't allow a contractor to take advantage of you. If you find this level of service fair and competitive, even in a bid situation, feel free to give them a call.
