We discontinued phone service through Nextech Wireless on February 7, 2022. We ported our service to another carrier on that date. We then received a final bill from Nextech which was charging us for the month of February (2-1-2022 thru 2-28-2022) in the amount of the total monthly premium of $******. I then called Nextech to request a prorated billing for just the dates of service received (2-1-2022 thru 2-07-2022). They informed me that they do not prorate bills for service ported out during the month. I couldn't believe that they could not prorate a billing so went into the Nextech office in ****** to discuss the matter. They made a call and also told me that they would not prorate a bill. I can not believe that this is a legal practice! This definitely benefits only the cell phone company and penalizes the customer. I refuse to pay a company for service I did not receive. I received 7 days of service and they expect me to pay for an additional 21 days for service they did not provide and for those 21 days I was already paying for service through another carrier. We already pay, in my opinion, an inflated amount to these cell phone companies and then to find out they can also charge for days that they do not provide any service. I can not think of any other company I deal with (gas, electric, etc) that does not prorate their bills when service is canceled.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/03/14) */ Thank you for reaching out regarding your concern. Unfortunately, the new billing cycle did start as of 2/01/2022 and it carried through to 2/28/2022. We do not prorate credits to customers who disconnect or port their numbers out in the middle of the billing cycle, as do no wireless carrier in the cell phone industry. This is actually very common for all cell phone providers to not issue credits back once a customer has disconnected services in the middle of the billing cycle. However, as a courtesy we have prorated the 2/01 invoice for you to only charge the 7 days that you had service with Nex-Tech Wireless. This does credit $****** off your invoice. I would suggest in the future before leaving your cell phone provider to call the company and check their policy on disconnecting or porting services out this way you will have a clear expectation as to what you will see on your final invoice. Consumer Response /* (2000, 7, 2022/03/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) I appreciate that Nextech has decided to provide me the courtesy of prorating my bill. I'm sorry that the issue had to go to this level to come to an agreeable conclusion. I had visited with them two times previously trying to resolve this issue. Thank you!
