The Stormont Vail Events Center discriminates against women at its events. Yesterday, my family tried to attend Cider Days at the facility. My mother went to the entrance for people who have already purchased tickets. My 7-year-old daughter and I went to purchase tickets but were greeted by a table for bag search and a metal detector. I had no issue with having my bag searched or going through the detector. However, we were never even given that opportunity. We were told our bag (purse) was to big. My 7-year-old had a tiny children's purse with her because she wanted to make her own purchases at the event, but we were told it was too big (It was the unicorn small purse they sell for kids at Target...not big at all). I commented that this was stupid because we were willing to have our bags searched. The rude man said "its not stupid" and a security guard came over and stood next to him (another man). Thus, we were turned away and walked outside. We walked over to the area where my mom would be coming out (because her purse was to big by their standards) and were followed by the guard. When we didn't do anything wrong. However, I did notice that a MAN was allowed inside the event with a backpack and that was perfectly ok. He was clearly not apart of the staff and was just someone attending the event. We went home and I searched for a smaller bag that would hold a wallet, keys, phone, tampons, Ibuprofen, and my inhaler which are things I had to have with me. However, I didn't have a bag small enough to hold these things. Thus, we were not able to attend the event. This is discrimination against women! We carry bags that will hold what we have to carry as women and shouldn't be penalized for it. Especially, if the Event Center will allow a MAN inside with a full size backpack with no issue. We were never offered a bag to purchase that would meet their requirements but were treated very rudely by the staff they had at the event all because we are female.
