We purchased an amazing 10 year old Quarter Horse gelding from H and R horses on 7/10/24. I drove down unannounced because I had some bad experiences buying horses from other places in the past. I explained to the owners what I was looking for and they didn’t try and sell me on something that didn’t fit everything I asked for. Our QH was a perfect fit for my 10 year old daughter to show and me for ranch work. Their barn is cleaner than most barns I’ve seen in my 51 years. Simply put, if you are looking for your next bullet proof, push button horse that’s been there, done that, and your looking for someone to shoot you straight on a horse; H and R horses is the place. Guarantee I’ll be back to H and R horses for my next horse. Kevin G******

I was very excited & planning on purchasing a listed “Friesian mare” from Erin Hagan at H and R Farms. When looking closely at the listing pictures & video, it was a bay colored horse ~ very pretty & I was still wanting to come try w/intention to buy for our Friesian farm in TN. When asking what else she was crossed with, Erin Hagan personally snapped at me & was VERY rude, yelling at me stating if I think I know more about her horses then she does, then we are not welcome at her barn! *At TGL Farms we have loved being in the purebred Friesian world for years (FHANA) importing 6 Ster & Sport-elite champions from Holland as well as some breeding & I was only CURIOUS as to what else she was crossed with, since we would want to know if we ever did decided to breed this bay mare. Purebred Friesians are ?? black, no questions, so this is in fact a “cross” which was fine for what we were wanting, BUT I was merely asking if she knew the rest of the horses lineage & she proceeded to continue to be quite nasty on the phone. When also trying to ask is there were any health issues or problems w/the particular horse, she continued to yell “look at the video it’s on the site!” I asked because I saw a few heavy, harness marks on both sides in the listed pictures on the mares hind quarters and it’s a normal question for any potential buyer to ask. In no way would I feel comfortable purchasing from her, honest people don’t react the way she did & also are willing to answer questions ie “is she used to being in the stall or pastured?” Response: “How should I know, we have 100’s of horses!” I’m thankful that I saw the other “bad” reviews on here which only solidified what kind of business she runs. Hopefully by posting our review, based on our experience with Erin, we will help someone else be more aware of what they might be stepping into before they try & purchase from this business. - TN

This lady was extremely insulting telling us that the horse advertised was not the breed we had advertised, when asked is she was stalled or pastured she was told both as we move them around in and out of the barn, not the answer she stated. She has called and texted on numerous occasions and asked the same questions over and over. The way she acted on the phone we were not interested in selling her as horse.

I purchased a QH gelding from H&R Farms about 3 weeks ago now. We called and talked with Erin multiple times before making the trip to their farm, we ultimately decided on two that were online that we were interested in looking at, and when we got there Erin was more than happy to show us them plus more that she thought would best suit us. Erin was honest with us about each horse and really helped to match us up with a horse that suited our abilities and skills, we decided on a horse that she pulled for us that had not been listed online. We got him home and he has proven to be everything that Erin claimed him to be and more. - MM, Ohio

We got a mare from H&R horses, (Erin Hagan). I am an experienced rider, having 13+ years with horse experience in western and English. We went to H&R horses to get a "WELL BROKE" horse for my mom who is a complete beginner. I was very thorough to get the point across we needed something extremely SAFE for my mom. We were shown a couple horses and eventually decided on a mare who Erin word for word said "she's the one out of all the horses I have that I would put my own mother on". After bringing the mare home, I realized this mare had a lot more in her than what my mom could handle. I would have to get on the mare and let her calm down every ride before I felt safe letting my mom on. The next week after lunging the mare for 10 mins, my mom wanted to get on first, and as soon as she got her feet in the stirrups the mare bolted off and bucked my mom off. No, nothing was wrong with the tack, and no, my mom did nothing to spook the mare. My trainer who watched it all happen also agreed the mare did it just to do it. I get that horses are horses, nothing is 100% spook proof or 100% safe all the time. But DO NOT list a horse that is clearly not safe for a beginner just to make money. With more research you can easily find that these people are kill buyers. The last thing I would ever want to do is leave a review like this. But I am beyond upset that this has caused my mom to get hurt badly and not want to ride for a long time. Erin, do better.

Purchased a horse from H&R Farms. Horse was as described. Shipped next day, horse arrived safe and sound. No problems, so far, with the horse. They had a large assortment of horses and supposedly fit the rider to the horse. So far I am very happy with my purchase. Only "con" is that horse did not arrive with anything other than coggins. I will probably get my vet out to do all shots, worming, etc. to make sure she is up to date on everything. Horse is very healthy, good feet, recent shoes, well groomed. Do your homework...but these folks are good people.

I bought a Morgan gelding from Erin over the website and everything she said was true. I asked her a lot of questions and made my decision to buy …… best decision ever!!!! He has been riding in National parks and been around Buffalo, elk, and was a foot away from a fawn when it jumped up. Absolutely no spook at all. I take him to my neighbors who run 800 cow /calf pairs and we work hard to help them. He steps right in and does everything I ask. Erin said he would be a good match for me and she knew what she was talking about. He is my companion for the rest of my riding days. He is only 4 and I’m 64!!?? Sometimes the people who complain are the people who don’t know horses and it’s the people’s fault and not the horse! Angie P. South Dakota

I've bought about 7 or 8 horses from H&R Horses in the past, and I'm getting another one soon this week Most of the horses I've gotten from them have been great, but there was one that didn't work out for us. The good thing is that H&R Horses took it back and gave us our money back. They don't actually breed or train these horses themselves. Instead, they buy them from different places, take videos of them, and then sell them. The horses don't stay at H&R Horses for very long, so the staff there doesn't know everything about the history of the horses either. If buying a horse is a big deal to you, then it's a good idea to go and try riding the horse before you decide to buy it. The videos they show off the horses are made by skilled riders who make the horses look their best. But how well the horse will do really depends on the experience of the rider and sometimes it just takes a few months to get to know each other. These horses have no jobs and were taken to auctions or consignment sales for different reasons. This is a great way to get horses into new homes, no matter if it is for the trails, a kid's horse, a driving horse, a ranch horse, a young project horse, etc. I'm very happy with the horses I've gotten from H&R Horses. They've brought me so much joy and good times.

These people are horse traders who frequently misrepresent the horses they sell. Read the complaints filed against them with BBB. Selling horses that are supposed to be "husband safe" and well trained when they are not, is fraudulent and it is also extremely dangerous. Furthermore, they are rude and unresponsive if there is a problem. Buyer Beware. Do not buy a horse from these people. Zero stars would be more appropriate!

Yes, we are horse traders. We have a website that lets people know that at www.handrhorses.com We do not try to misrepresent any horse that we sell.

I purchased a mare from H and R farms, through an auction in bowie after seeing her being listed for sale in Clarion Pennsylvania. I was so scared I was going to get a fire-breathing dragon being a first-time horse owner, and purchasing her from an auction (something my trainer told me NOT to do) It was the best decision I have ever made. I've had my mare home for a little over a week and she is exactly as described in her for sale ad, and rides amazingly as seen in her youtube video. After I purchased her I started checking into her owners and these guys had a luke warm reputation but after getting my girl home I really think its because they move hundreds if not thousands of horses a year and a few people they sell to are pissed or just inexperienced. Not saying that I am the most experienced (far from it) but what I saw online, matched her when I got home and as a business owner, I appreciate that level of transparency.

Thank you so much for the kind words. It's nice to know some people out there are still living in reality in terms of the level of experience needed to be horse owner.
