I hired Eric P****, owner of AKL Construction to remodel 2 baths (leaving toilet, tub & tub tile, replace flooring, trim, vanities, vanity lights, shower doors, add new fixtures, remove popcorn ceiling, paint ), remove & replace deck, install shed under deck, remove & replace flooring, trim and stove hood in kitchen, replace sliding glass doors to deck w/ French doors, replace exterior porch lights. The down payment was paid in July 2023, work did not begin until Sept 2023. Overall the quality of work was poor; painted 1 bath incorrect color, mud on walls in same bath not sanded smooth leaving marks, vanity lights not centered above vanity on both baths, trim in both baths not flush to walls & did not fit to base of vanity, unable to open vanity drawers full in one bath due to hitting door trim, blistering of paint on bath ceiling wall, visible drywall seam in 1 bath where replaced, bowed spindles on deck rails. Most of these issued were remedied by contractor others I will have to live with. The blister on bath ceiling and bowing spindles have not yet been replaced (warranty work). The shed is still not complete, materials & labor already paid for. Contractor careless while working at home, disposing empty drink bottles, wrappers, cans, down the hill of wooded area, tearing screen on window, tearing ceiling tiles in basement, use of my small fan to blow out dust. It took several months to get final receipt from contractor & when received I informed I had overpaid - see att doc. The bulk of the refund is due to contractor taking $2000 from my deposit and using on his personal expenses to fix truck, he requested I reimburse the funds as a drawl but contractor never allowed the advance to be deducted from any labor payments requested. When contractor informed of overpayment, he asked for me to provide all the checks written & he would adjust his final bill by adding extras to match what I paid, no backup. Said lost time logs for my work.
