Transaction occurred between just prior to Derby and May 30, 2022. I may repeat previous information provided as my telephone is difficult to use. Requested originally that Harper’s mow my property just prior to Derby Weekend. Additional days were requested. The invoice I received for the mowing was incorrect. April mowing included only one day, total charge should be $80. May mowing should include only 3 work days for mowing. One of those was incomplete. I will agree to pay 2 $80 and 1 for $60. Total to be paid $300 plus $18.00. The maintenance work I requested was primarily the garden area immediately in front of the house. Most of the garden area was to be cleaned out except when plants such a boxwoods, sedums, iris, mint, Taxus, Japanese Pieris, roses, euonymus, day lilies, small Holly, and a large Japanese maple were involved. Mostly grass and volunteer trees, and the 2 small hollies were t be removed entirely. There were 3 roses, most of the clematis, and sedums were also removed. The Iris plants included in the area were largely damaged. It now also appears that the Clematis and Euonymus next to the porch entrance were damaged. The Japanese Pier-is was pruned incorrectly and a large Holly tree at the end of the house was pruned incorrectly and unnecessarily. Harper trimmed 2 trees outside the requested area mistakenly and has changed the limbs used for bird feeders. The tree next to them that was in need of trimming was ignored. I did not request any trimming to them be done. A ground cover in an area next to the house was incorrectly removed and it appears the pachysandra in it destroyed. I did request that he trim some branches at the front be trimmed, but the workmanship was sloppy. The area where the grass, etc. was removed was to be sprayed, but was not. Please consider a reduction of $400 to cover the cost of plant replacement and labor and ongoing work to correct the shape of the plants badly pruned by Harper

There is no written contract between Harper’s and myself.  The issues I have are verbal and the carelessness and lack of respect for my wishes and my property caused permanent changes to some of that area and vegetation .  The major requirement for Harper’s was a garden area directly in front of my house.  I have been recuperating from some injuries and had hired them to mow for me once a week.  This year I ran into a situation and wanted to mow my property and clean up my gardens in time for Derby.  I also agreed to have Harper’s mow a few more times.

Their invoice for the mowing was incorrect and they had neglected to mow a large portion of the back yard.  I have included the correction to that invoice for mowing.  It also included charges that were for weeks they did not mow

As for the garden in front of the house he did use a weed eater to clear vegetation down to ground and was to use a spray to kill it.  The vegetation has returned in full force. He used no herbicide. Roses, clematis, and sedum were removed.   Iris were severely damaged. Japanese Pieris were pruned incorrectly.  Other plants were also pruned incorrectly. Holly tree pruned without being asked and left it very interactive.  Now, I will have to remove that vegetation, make sure grass and weeds do not grow back, purchase replacement plants and plant them.

Additionally he trimmed to large maple trees without me asking him to.  There was another large tree near those maples that was in need of trimming.  I’m working on cutting those branches.

In another area of the yard there are many large trees.  I asked him to do help cut out a parasitic growth.  He did so, but he took no care in doing so.  He also cut back branches near my mailbox in a very sloppy manner.

The debris from the yard work was dumped in an area that was needing to be cleaned up, but he dumped all the debris in that area.  More work for me.

This is my property and all work to be performed should be under my direction.
