    Established in 1866 by Dr. John Ellis, Valvoline became the first trademarked motor oil brand in the U.S. It gained recognition through racing victories and as a recommended oil for the Ford Model T. Acquired by Ashland in 1950, Valvoline expanded its product range and global presence, particularly in automotive maintenance and heavy-duty engine applications.

    In the late 1980s, Valvoline started VIOC service center stores, focusing on consumer automotive preventive maintenance and quick lube services. It continued innovating with synthetic and high-mileage motor oils in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

    Valvoline became a subsidiary of Ashland in May 2016, and in September 2016, it went public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as "VVV". Ashland fully divested its ownership in Valvoline in May 2017. Today, Valvoline operates as an independent corporation, specializing in automotive retail services with a focus on quick and convenient vehicle maintenance.

      I'm expressing my concerns regarding a recent experience at a Valvoline Instant Oil Change location. On [ August 6 2024], I visited the Valvoline location at [4030 Dupont Rd Fort Wayne] for a coolant flush and fill service for my 2020 Hyundai Kona SE with a 2-liter engine. During the service, I repeatedly inquired whether the antifreeze being used was compatible with my vehicle. The manager assured me that the multi-vehicle antifreeze used would be suitable. However, I have since discovered that this antifreeze is not compatible with my vehicle, as confirmed by both my vehicle’s manual and ******** compatibility check. I also consulted with Hyundai. The correct antifreeze would have been Zerex Asian Blue for Asian cars. I need a phosphate based antifreeze. Valvoline multi vehicle antifreeze is not phosphate based product. The use of this incorrect antifreeze has caused significant concern regarding potential corrosion in my engine, voiding my warranty, and damaging components such as the water pump. Consequently, I had to take my car to a Hyundai dealership to have the radiator and system flushed and the correct antifreeze installed, incurring additional costs. I have been in contact with the Valvoline location multiple times since the service, requesting a refund of $110.00 for the incorrect service. Despite being promised that the manager would make a decision regarding my refund, I have not received any response. I have been informed that the manager has been contacted on her personal phone several times, yet I remain without a resolution. I am requesting a refund for the cost of the service performed at Valvoline, I understand that the manager was likely acting on information provided by Valvoline, but the incorrect antifreeze has caused undue stress and financial burden.       On 7/13/24 I went for an oil change and told the service guy I was going on a long road trip so please make sure all my fluids are checked. I'm prepared for the normal attempts to 'upsell' services, and I did agree to an new cabin air-filter. Service person #1 told me my battery checked out great. Later, service person #2, who was older and seemed to have more authority, said person #1 made a mistake and my battery was in bad shape and will die any minute. Of course he had a battery to sell me. I said that's hard to believe since this is a new battery and alternator, he flashed the monitor read-out in front of me with the needle in the red zone, and suggested I ask my mechanic why my battery is about to die. Service man #2 then told me he recommends a radiator flush- when I told him my coolant was flushed last week he said 'ok, you're set then'. I asked to take a photo of the battery read out, and when I got home realized the read-out was a joke! The voltage read at ***** V, which is fine, except in big red letters it read "BAD & REPLACE", with the meter reader in the big red section on the graph. Visually it is alarming if you don't read the facts and know what voltage your battery should be at. which I didn't know until I went home and researched.The next day I brought my car to the mechanic and my battery read-out was excellent, full power.I feel like they have a strategic system of manipulating people. These guys lied to my face, and it appears they rigged their equipment to show alarming results when the numbers are in normal range. That's putting quite a bit of effort into manipulating people! What's really sad too, is it appears the younger service guy 'admitted' he made an error when he didn't. I hate that good young people working hard on a hot day servicing cars are being pressured into dishonesty, and thinking this as an acceptable business model.Shame on you Valoline! I would rate at 0 stars, but this system requires at least one star.
