4/15/23 Took my pup because she’s was bleeding from her nose , vet was terrified of the blood, he ran blood test and sent us on our way, Doctor calls next morning at 9 am , says blood test were perfect calling in the medicine she was on 6 months ago from previous vet , get there to pick up medicine, can’t find her records for an hour, kept stating how busy they are , and asking me when was she seen? Then they find her records and tell me to wait in car , so they can get it ready . I go inside to pick up medicine, they refuse to give me a copy of her blood test , supervisor calls me and said she will email it to me on Monday, so Wednesday comes( today 4/19) and I have to keep calling to get the blood test results, they finally send them via email and her blood test was not perfect, it’s even written in red ink . She is extremely low on iron , anemia, the other count shows she has had an untreated infection for awhile and the other count shows a bacterial infection. Literally I believe someone should step in and limit how many patients they see because the are inadequate to handle what they allow in , they are about quantity not quality!

I had an extended visit with Ms. J**** on 4/15/2023 involving a detailed discussion of Abby's condition. I localized the source of the bloody discharge. I discussed the most likely differentials, and I discussed the necessity of performing detailed diagnostics of rhinoscopy and possibly a CT scan wince this condition dates back to October of 2022. I performed labwork to assess the overall health of Abby. I do not agree with Ms. J****' interpretation of Abby's labwork. I prescribed the same medication as her regular veterinary because Ms. J**** specifically stated that in the past those medications were effective. My last conversation with Ms. J**** was on Sunday, 4/16/2023. She was to call me in 24 hours if there was no change in Abby's condition. I never received any follow-up call from her. She never indicated to me that she was unhapy with my evaluation or recommendations. If she had, I would have certainly addressed those concerns. Ms. J**** was told that we would email her records. I only have a specific group of office employees that handle medical records. Therefore, there is a small time delay. Our hospital did reach out to Ms. J**** via phone and text on 4/19/23 but received no reply. - Joseph F***** DVM

I took my dog Dymond to her regular vet (whom I love) to get a quote on getting her teeth cleaned, it turned out to be too expensive so I decided to go to Shivley Animal Clinic. I took my dog there over 5 years ago and stopped going due to the long lines, over crowded waiting area, and having to be there all day. The only reason I took her to Shivley on July 21st was to get a cheaper quote, something I could afford. I checked her in, told them what I needed and was told to go home and they would call me. They eventually called after 2 to 3 hours to ask me how old she was I told her 6, she asked who her vet was and did I try them first, I told her yes, of course I tried them first, but they were too expensive. She put me on hold to call my vet, came back to me to say they have to refuse services because they didn't have any available appointments right now, and they don't recommend me getting my dog's teeth cleaned by a different vet other than their own, and that their prices are the same as my vet. I was so offended. First off, I was not trying to be deceitful by going to them, I couldn't afford what I was quoted and for her to call my vet was so upsetting, I could have told her the quote had she asked. I was made to feel like I was doing something wrong. I called my vet to make sure I hadn't offended them, and asked if it was ok for me to try to get a cheaper price. My vet (Bluecross Animal Hospital) was so understanding and advised me it was ok to do what I did. They assured me I hadn't did anything wrong and they understood my dilemma. I didn't want my vet to think I was being shady at all. I was so offended by Shivley calling my vet and then refusing services. If this is something you don't do , why call my vet, then give several reasons why you wouldn't see my dog. A simple "we don't work with dogs that have an established vet" would have sufficed. I still can't believe it. I did find a nice vet who will clean my baby's teeth with my vet's blessing.

I still cannot believe what happened to my beloved pet yesterday at Shively, I could not sleep last night, all I could see were his eye and hear his cries. I have been taking my pets to Shively on and off for 20 years. I recently took Lennie back due to financial stress, I knew that meant long waits and CASH ONLY PAYMENTS. He was diagnosed with renal failure. I kept him 2 more months while he was happy, eating well and had good quality of life. He started acting ill and I knew it was time to let him go. I called Shively and asked the procedure for euthenasia. I was told to come in, say why I was there and I would be firstin line, only a short wait. I asked about cremation and payment and was told that I could pay everything when I came back for Lennie's ashes. I waited 2 HOURS before getting to a room! Torture #1. Then the vet comes in and makes me put him on the table, I said I wanted to hold him, I was holding a clean white sheet! She said she couldn't bend down that far!! I hugged him tight and she injected what I thought was sedation, but he cried out!! I asked why he was crying and she said that he was going from consciousness to unconscious... what?? She then said 'hes gone". They told me to spend time with my baby, eyes wide open, diaphragm still moving. I cried to my pet how sorry I was do bring him there. They came in a few minutes later and asked if I had enough time with my baby!!! They were rushing me out!! The whole process was a rush! I'll never forgive that very, and I'll never get his cries out if my memory. He should have been sedated first!!. Oh, and I was asked to pay before I left, to throw salt in the wound.

We at Shively Animal Clinic strive to make the end of life and passing of a pet as comforting to both client and patient as possible. We know this is a difficult decision and always strive to put them in the front of our line and get them into a room as quickly as possible. However, sometimes due to other circumstances it is not always as quickly as we would like, as in this instance. When Ms. **** and Lennie were put into a room a doctor came into the room to take Lennie for his IV catheter placement. We do this to allow our clients to have time with their pets until they are ready for them to cross over. The solution itself is a sedation. A pre-sedation is not always necessary, it is dependent on each individual case. In this case, it was not deemed to be necessary. Pre-sedation in most cases make the pets seem unresponsive, therefore the client feels the pet is already passed. We always allow the client to have sufficient time, however in this instance Ms. **** was highly emotional and being disruptive to other clients who didn't understand what was going on. At this time, we ended the visit. With regards to payment, we were having staff come to the room to check her out, but she had already come to the front desk to check out. Payment is normally due at time of service.

      Customer Response

      06/22/2022

Shively has replied stating that "pre-anesthesia" is not necessary before euthanasia, but if you take time to read about veterinary medicine and the recommendations, all say it is easier for the animal and the owner. Shively also claims I was disruptive?? Yes, I told the vet that I hoped she never, ever did that to anyone else and that she should be ashamed. I was given excuse after excuse why I made things wrong, they never took responsibility for any of this disaster. No wonder they are rated so poorly in Facebook, Yelp, and I hope BBB.
