I had professional hair and makeup done at the salon for a photoshoot. The makeup and hair were done very poorly and I ended up having to reschedule my photoshoot because the photographer could not actually get good photos of me. The makeup was very heavy on my face and I could not smile properly. I also did not much feel like smiling because I looked horrible. I paid for hair styling and volumizing. My hair was plastered to my head. Everyone who saw my photo was shocked at how much it aged me and how awful I looked because I am normally relatively photogenic. I ended up doing my own makeup and rebooking my shoot with the same photographer. He charged me for another shoot because the issue was with makeup and hair, not photography. The photos that were done after I did my own hair and makeup were much better. I contacted the salon with both photo samples to show them the comparison and requested compensation. I had spent ~ $150 on my hair and makeup and $90 on a repeat photoshoot, totalling ~$240 and a lot of my time wasted. The salon's owner replied to my email to request clarification. Shortly thereafter, a manager called me to criticize the photography skills and equipment used during my first shoot with their staff's makeup. She also praised the photography skills of my second photo shoot. Both shoots were done by the same photographer, in the same studio, using the same equipment. I felt attacked rather than supported and my takeaway conclusion is that the business is siding with their staff and blaming me as the customer to avoid responsibility. No compensation was offered and I was told that this decision was made after a meeting between the stylist, management, and the owner.
