Was charged more than $30 more than my digital yearly subscription bill said it would be when I logged into my account to confirm the amount a day before it was scheduled to withdraw. It was a Sunday, so I had to wait until Monday, and was unable to get a human on the phone before Tuesday. I told them I wanted to cancel my account (C-J doesn't give you the option to do so yourself). They said it would be cancelled, and that my charge would be fully refunded within 10-14 business days. Neither happened. I called in again, was given the same story. My subscription was cancelled, but no refund. I called in today, and they tried to tell me that they don't normally do refunds for digital subscriptions. Really?! I have been assured that they will refund me, this time within 3-4 days. We'll see if that happens. This company is scammy af, and can't even keep it's own story straight. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!Review from Judith B

Throws paper “somewhere” on property-never in paper box Wrapped in plastic - I thought the Courier was concerned about the environment. We’ve been subscribers for nearly 60 years and this is our worst carrier. At our age it’s no fun to play find the paper and then bend down to pick it up. Surely it’s less time consuming to put it in the box than to wrap it in plasticReview from Alien T

Courier-journal.com is suddenly spamming me (3 emails at 08:30) and claiming I owe them an already increasing subscription fee. These reviews confirm my bad impression of this company. FRAUD!Review from Alan F

On 5/2, I noticed a pending charge to my credit card for $31.77 from the Courier-Journal, a 400% increase. I was expecting it to be $7.70, the price I had been paying quarterly for the past four years for a digital-only subscription. I contacted CJ Customer Service immediately and inquired why the increase and why was I not advised in advance of the increase? I was told that's the price ongoing and they don't send price changes even via email . Although I was offered a slightly lower price, it would have still be at least 200% over what I was paying, I cancelled the subscription immediately and asked for a refund of $31.77 to my credit card. The rep informed my that the subscription was cancelled and they would forward a "request" to accounting for a refund. I waited 10 days for the refund to show up on my credit card, but after none appeared, I contacted CJ Customer Service again. They're response to the refund was that they do not offer refunds and that my subscription would continue until the end of the next billing period. The rep also stated that "it should be cancelled before the billing cycle". Since they don't produce even electronic bills or publish billing dates (only issue charges to credit cards), how was I supposed to know that I'd be getting a 400% increase before I saw the pending credit card charge? I find this practice to be unsatisfactory.Review from Jamie C

Spk w/Patrick @ 8OO8662211 3/21/23 @ 1136a for 8m30sec bc I rcvd a bill that I shouldnt have.He said I was being billed for services rendered in March. I explained that is incorrect bc I called in Feb to cancel. Rep told me I am paid through the end of Feb and will no longer be billed nor receive the Sunday paper as of 3/1/23.We did not receive anymore papers after March 1st, but yesterday on 3/20/2023, received a paper bill (although we were set up to receive electronic statements).I asked, when does your system say that I called to cancel? He said the system shows I cancelled 3/5/2023. I asked again, when i physically called? He LIED and said 3/4/2023.I informed him of the following: "Courier Journal cancelled 2/6/23. Paid through the remainder of the month of February. Will no longer be billed as of 3/1/23. Cancel # 117642" He changed his story claiming he misread the date & informed me to disregard the bill and he is not making any changes to my account. I said, "You're telling me you're not going to make any changes on my account, but you want me to disregard this bill?" He said, "Yes. I will not process any changes at all on the account." I said, "Pardon me for not believing that this issue is resolved. I will need clarification before exiting this call. Are you saying that the Courier Journal will be removing that bill from my account or crediting the account as a courtesy and THAT is why I can disregard this bill? You're confirming that I will not have to pay nor do I owe the Courier Journal $3.60 any longer because Courier Journal is removing this bill, correct? Stuttering a bit, He said, "Yes. You do not have to worry about the bill any longer and can use the same cancellation number." I said, "okay works for me". We disconnected, but it still doesnt sit well with me that I had to go through all of this, when it shouldve already been cancelled without any further bills + the rep lied in order to get me to pay this amount for papers we never received.Review from Linda L.

I subscribed to the Sunday paper in June 2022, as of today, 11/4/22, I had 3 papers delivered!! I called each and every Sunday and was told a paper would be delivered by 11am. I received 3 papers after being told the carrier would bring the paper. I called again today after not receiving yesterdays paper and asked to cancel the subscription, I was told my subscription would be cancelled as of my pay through date of 12/4/2022!!! I told them that was not acceptable and I wanted a refund at which time I was told they do not give refunds! ??????Review from Sharon M

Don’t try to get an answer about how much your subscription is. You won’t get an answer. I was paid up for 6 months, got a bill that had several mystery charges “additional charges $138.00”. Not one person could give me an answer what that charge was. Came to an agreement for $114.48 for Sunday delivery only for 6 months, which I paid. Then received another bill for $182.35. By my calculations, a Sunday paper costs $8-10. Ridiculous.Review from Steve M

I ordered a new subscription newspaper to be delivered to my house Sunday through Friday each week for a year on 8-3-2022 and received a confirmation email stating the newspaper would start being delivered on 8-5-2022. As of today 8-17-2022 I have not received one newspaper and they have already deducted a payment from my account. I have called and talked to them, sent emails and still nothing.Review from Marc C

Probably the worst company to do business with I've ever experienced. My Sunday only subscription rate was $12- In almost a year, my monthly billing was never $12; anywhere between $15 to $24. My rate was increased to $14 in April so my credit card was charged $40! I called to cancel my subscription and asked for a refund on the $40 charge less the one Sunday C-J that I had received that month: I was refunded $11.62 which made the one paper I did receive for April $28.38. Giving these people your credit card info is inviting them to steal from you which they are very good at!Review from Gary C

We have been loyal Courier Journal customers for decades and for the very first time, have been experiencing significant delivery issues. The newspaper has not been delivered for over two weeks now, and after repeated emails and phone calls, we are extremely disappointed that there has been no resolve; especially after being assured by a customer representative that we would receive a paper the next day. Each time we have called, the representative has promised that the issue would be corrected immediately, so of course we excitedly anticipate a newspaper the next day, only to find that it has not been delivered. They always offer to credit us for the missed newspapers, but it is unbelievable that this issue has continued since January 8th. Unfortunately, we don’t know who the carrier is or how to contact them, but it would seem to be an easy issue to resolve by the Courier. Frankly, we aren’t sure what to do next, as there are no other contact options. We really miss our daily newspaper and this has become ridiculously unacceptable. It seems that we may be the only ones in the immediate neighborhood experiencing this issue, which is also puzzling.Courier Journal Response

The Courier-Journal regrets this customer's poor experience. We've escalated this matter to our distribution manager for review and correction and also applied a courtesy credit for the month of February. We left a voicemail for the customer, informing them of the steps taken to resolve this matter and providing direct contact information in case further assistance is required.
