I took a chair cushion to the Upholster Center in J-town. I spoke with the owner, asking to have the cushion re-stuffed with the firmest foam possible with hardly any give on it. He told me I would have to purchase an entire sheet of foam, and there would be enough left over for at least two more times if needed again, for $150 plus $25 labor cash or check only, payable to him personally, rather than the business, and would be ready late the following afternoon. I gave him a personal check for $175. I went back then, and it wasn't ready. It actually took almost a week to come in. When I picked up the cushion expecting also to get the rest of the foam slab, the owner told me he had to use a piece from another job to re-stuff my cushion and that the rest of the foam could be picked up later in the week. When I went back for the rest of the slab, not only was it not large enough to be done a couple of more times if needed, it wasn't even as large as the cushion itself. When I asked the owner where was the rest of it, he said that's all there is. I reminded him that he told me the cost was $150 for an entire slab that would have enough left to do the job at least two more times if needed. His reply was that's the size they sent, and that's what it cost. He made sure he waited long enough for my check to clear, and the amount is not enough to bother with small claims court. I believe I have been cheated and swindled by this business owner. I will not go back, nor will I recommend this business to anyone else looking for upholstery work.
