For a bathroom remodel, I got a recommendation through church to Damon Rosenbarker, doing business as On Point Construction. Mr. Rosenbarker hung the heavy glass doors to the walk-in shower with attachments that were not strong enough. The sliding door immediately slumped (I have pictures showing his original pencil marks on the wall above the door, showing that the support bar had fallen a substantial amount). This meant that the door met the shower surround at the top, but that there was a large gap at the bottom. It was crooked. Mr. Rosenbarker covered this up by attaching the seal strip at the door edge so that it fully engaged the door edge at the top, but was tapered to the bottom so that there was very little holding the strip in place the further down it went. I discovered this when the bottom half of the seal strip came away. I had a plumber reattach the seal strip, but that resulted in a gap at the bottom so that water leaked out. Further investigation shows that both of the support bar attachments to the wall were weak. The plumber was able to jiggle the top support bar, which moved freely all along its length, which was dangerous given the weight of the door., When Mr. Rosenbarker finished the job he charged me $500 for materials but produced no receipts. He also charged me an additional $300 over his original quote because he found the job so unpleasant. He must have been aware that the shower doors were improperly installed since on the left side the support bar is well below his original pencil marks. Had the attachment been placed correctly in line with his pencil marks, the door would not have been crooked although still unstable.. I had to pay the plumber $550 to repair the glass door support . It appears that Mr. Rosenbarker lacked the skill or time to install the doors correctly. In my opinion, ethical handling of the situation would involve his discussing this issue with me so that we could figure out how to proceed. That did not happen.

Karen, It saddens me to hear this. With it being a year ago that this was done it is hard for me to recall all of the details. I pride myself on communicating with my clients and making sure they understand what is going on with the project good or bad. What I do remember is that I was coming into a project that was half done. I don't know what happened with the other contractor but you said it was real bad and you had to run him off. All of the large components were already purchased and in some state of being installed or in your garage. Things were out of level and square. I discussed this with you and the lack of room to really fix the problem using the size shower stall that was already purchased, so we proceeded. I do remember the problem with the shower doors, They are very heavy and rolled very easily. If they were installed square with the shower they would be very out of level and rolled very fast and hard, slamming closed. If they were hung level they would leave a large gap that would not be any where near water tight. I am sure I discussed this with you. Being expensive doors that you wanted to use I tried to split the difference and I believe you knew this. I don't remember what fasteners were used, if they came with it or were what the shower doors called for. I admit that sometimes I don't use hardware that comes with things but if I don't it is because I feel it insufficient and use something with higher strength ratings. As for price. The extra charge was for taking things out to redo them that I had not for seen like taking the already installed shower base out to put thin-set mortar under it to make it solid. I don't do anything like that without talking and agreeing with the client about cost first. For the parts charge I use a cheap free accounting program that makes it very cumbersome if not impossible to itemize a bill so I always give the option to see or get copies of all the receipts, you declined. Close to the end of the job you introduced me to your neighbor as the best contractor in the world. When you wrote the check you told me how much you trusted me and if I ever needed work to call because you were needing painting done. I just wish you would have trusted me enough to let me know you were unhappy or having problems. I would have done whatever I could to make things right.
