When I was interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy, I spoke with recruiters from Northern Kentucky University. They advertised a tuition rate lock of 275 per credit hour for the time it took to finish the degree as long as I didn't take more than one year off from classes. I signed up with Northern Kentucky University for this reason. However, this year they said they are no longer honoring the tuition rate lock. Increasing the tuition to 320 per credit hour. This is false marketing and dishonest billing practices. I would like NKU to honor there original promise of a tuition rate lock.Initial Complaint

I signed up for a class in 2022 and was unable to take the class due to being sick with Covid. I am a nurse and was caring for Covid patients during that time and tested positive and was furloughed from work. I withdrew from the class on day three because I was too sick to even sit up or eat, let alone finish assignments for a masters degree program. I was blocked from signing up for the next round of classes and called to find out why and was told that since I did not cancel on day 2 and instead cancelled on day 3 of the class that I had to pay for half the class, but that I could fill out an appeal form, which I did, and sent in. This was 12/2022. The college said they never received it so I sent it again in Jan 2023. No one was willing to help me and I refuse to pay for a class I never attended. They now sent me a letter which I will attach and said I could explain my dispute in writing, which I did and included copies of the original paperwork I sent in 12/22. I am now told that it is past the time and they will not remove this charge. I refuse to pay for a class I never attended or turned in work for. This is absolutely ridiculous that they want to charge me over $1000 for one day late when I was seriously ill. Attached is proof of my positive Covid test and subsequent furlough from ****** ******* and ********** ********. You are welcome to contact my employer to verify the validity of the furlough. The amount they’re charging me is $1140.88 for one day, which is insane and should be illegal.Initial Complaint

On 2/6/2023 at 9:20 am, I called Northern Kentucky university (NKU), to see how I can go about paying fees and finishing my degree there. I was transferred to Larry m, mr mckickle was extremely disrespectful while asking the next steps to finish my Degree, he was talking to me in a way that was, derogatory, racist, arrogant and unprofessional… I would like someone in charge to listen to the recorded conversation on 2/6/2023 at 9:20 am and the conversation was 13 minutes long. This is not the first time I have encountered such unprofessional behavior from Larry m at NKU, a similar incident incident happened my last semester at nku which is also on a recorded line ( I do not have the date and time for the first incident) . This matter must be addressed immediately as students such as myself should feel comfortable calling to further out degrees in any aspect. Without employees such as Larry m showing unprofessional and racist behavior. Nku has sent my account to a collection agency, that no longer has my account and now is with another agency ( mr m informed me of who but wasn’t very clear). I asked him to send me the validation of the debt and he did that, however it does not have the current collection agency that has my account. Mr M said I would have to pay Nku before I can start courses, but if they have sold my account to collections agency I would pay them not nku… I also have documentation from the first collection agency that had my account and it said that I would receive proper ppaperwork from nku but never did. I would like both matters to be investigated.Business response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ** ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below. No one at Nku has tried to contact me, nor have they explained the reason why my balance at nku was given to a collection agency first, then it was sent to the Kentucky department of revenue 2nd. I need explanation and solution to this matter, the balance that started at nku should have been sent to the Kentucky department of revenue first and NOT the collection agency.
Regards,
