07/31/2024- We were told that our 2012 Toyota Prius needed a new head gasket and possibly an engine in the amount of $6-8K. This was after months of service and over $2000 of costs incurred to fix the very problem that we ended up with. On 09/17/2023, my daughter, ***** ********, took my car to the dealership for a knocking noise. She was told it was coils and plugs. After paying for the repair and picking the car up, it had same issue. This happened 2 more times. Coad did make a warranty replacement as well. All in all, approximately $5K was spent on this car and it was never fixed. The problem persisted an on July 30, 2024, we were told the engine needed to be replaced due to head gasket issues. Another mechanic had told us in Spet of 2023, that it was the head gasket, but he had no idea how to work on hybrids. I believe Toyota knew this all along, as I have since learned that it is common knowledge that 2010 and 2012 Prius' are known for head gasket issues. Toyota refused to work with us on a trade in to help compensate some of the costs and accepted no responsibility for mis-diagnosing the issue all along. I see there are other complaints on here similar in nature. It is a shame that this business is allowed to operate under such disingenuous practices and causing financial harm to public. I asked them to accept the Prius and add another $2000 for a trade in on a car that would get my daughter and grandson around town. They simply said they had nothing.

      Business response

The first time we saw this vehicle was on 09/27/2023. The vehicle had 223104 miles. The last time we saw the vehicle was with 225121 miles on 07/12/2024. The vehicle had 5 visits in-between those date. The Technician followed a trouble shooting code tree everytime the vehicle was in. When a vehicle is this old and with that many miles it is very possible that their can be multiple issues. The issues have to be repaired in a particular order or it can lead to false diagnosis. In this case the diag tree was followed and this is the outcome. It is unfortunate that it ends this way but Coad Toyota Paducah in this case is just the bearer of bad news.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: t the service technicians should be trained. Not one of the repairs that followed the “code tree” alleviated the problem. Not one time. We simply paid Coad Toyota for nothing and they came out very well. The car dealers that I have spoken with since have all agreed that Coad took advantage of the situation, or does not employ trained mechanics.

      Sincerely,

      **** ****
