On March 17, 2023, dropped off my daughter's prom dress at Runte Lake Cleaners to be dry cleaned for the upcoming dance. A few days later, I picked up the dress and when my daughter went to try it on that evening, she noticed one of the straps in the back was missing. I brought the dress back to Runte Lake Cleaners to advise of the damage. They kept the dress and advised they would look for the strap. A few days later, I received a call indicating they could not locate the strap and I could file a claim if I brought in the original receipt (at no point did they indicate they would keep the dress if a claim was made). I later went back to the business to discuss the matter, as I was working on getting a receipt because I bought the dress from an individual and not a business. I asked for the dress back so I could see about getting it repaired- they advised I could not have the dress if I was filing a claim. I requested the dress back and to please have the owner call me ASAP to discuss the matter further. I have called Runte Lake Cleaners at least 3 times requesting to speak to the owner. As of this date, I have not received a call back. I was still required to pay $27.00 for the dry cleaning of the dress. In addition to the back of the dress having to be repaired, the seamstress also had to add a hook and repair some other damage to the dress that was not previously there. My daughter loved this dress and we did not have enough time to go out and look for another dress prior to her prom event. I have made several attempts to reach out to the owner to discuss the matter, but they continue to ignore my attempts, which represents bad business. I will never use Runte Lake Cleaners again and am requesting a refund at the least.Business response

Actually, when the claim happens, we pay customer claim amount, but we retain claimed cloths, customer was not willing to give the claimed cloths even after refund. Or they misunderstood
but for now Matter resolved and refunded customer and customer promised to take complaint back

I am rejecting this response because:
The company DID refund me the cost of the dry cleaning. I only received a call from the business after making several attempts to speak to the owner AFTER this complaint was filed. The damage to the dress did not make the dress a total loss and my daughter loved it and we didn’t have time to find another dress before the event so I had someone make repairs to the dress. In the beginning when explained they would keep the dress if I filed a claim, I asked several times for the owner to call me to discuss the matter further, but he would not - that delay gave me no other choice but to have the dress repaired as best as I could due to the upcoming event.
Also, I did NOT promise to drop this complaint, but was glad they did refund my money back for the poor cleaning service performed and damage sustained to the dress.
