My daughter purchased a gift card for me in May 2019 for $85. I used the card and have a remaining balance of $27. I went into the business only to be told that all cards not used at the end of the year are wiped from their computer and no longer can be used. I had a copy of the law that was printed in 2014, and was told that law may not be in effect now. Upon returning home, I looked up the current law and it is the same. The law La rs 51:1423 deceptive trade practices states that if a retailer does not put an expiration date on the card, it will be valid until redeemed. The card I have does not have an expiration date. Not to mention with Covid in 2020 and 2021, how many more clients lost money and have no idea this is actually a law. The owner did not come out to speak to me, had the receptionist informed me that they would not honor my card. My first choice would be to return my $27 because I would rather not give them my business, and wonder how I would be treated due to me filing this complaint. If this is not possible, then a store credit would be my next choice. If you are not able to help me, can you notify how I can contact the state department that can help me resolve this matter. Small amount, but it is the principal that he is not willing to resolve this matter. Thanks for your help.
