We signed a contract for the removal of a large oak tree from our backyard, which was done on September 22nd, 2021. However, as McKenzie does not have a crane, they subcontracted the job to an out of state tree service. Also, the subcontractor apparently accepted the job site on seen because as soon as they arrived we were asked to pay an additional $1,000.00 to take down our back fence so their equipment could reach the tree. We did not agree to this request but immediately notified McKenzie by text, who apologized.When the job was finished McKenzie claimed we had agreed to pay the additional money, which we denied.Therefore, rather than replacing the fence, the subcontractor simply propped it up, bracing it with lumber and metal poles and covering several gaps with plywood sheets. The yard was also badly rutted and holed. McKenzie then asked that we pay all but $500.00 of the agreed to sum, that to be paid after stump grinding which was to be done at a later, unspecified date. This we did.However, when we later contacted McKenzie to inquire about the stump grinding, fence repair and lawn restoration we were told we would have to pay extra for that work and that we had withheld $500.00 for stump grinding. Both claims are patently false.If our experience is indicative of this company's post hurricane *** work, it is unlikely to retain its BBB A+ rating. But apparently the McKenzie's no longer care about their reputation, any more than they care about their customers' welfare, as it seem they hope to make enough from this type of hasty, shoddy, slipshod work to retire.

 

This is a follow up to a complaint submitted against Mckenzie Enterprises on October 6, 2021. In that post we detailed the company's failure to fulfill the terms of a contract for the removal of a tree from our back yard, which also resulted in considerable damage to our property. In response, Mckenzie denied any liability for their actions and further stated that our subsequent claim against their insurer had been denied. Obviously, these things take time, but yesterday we received their insurer's check for $3,590.20 as compensation for the damage McKenzie caused. Their assertion that our claim was denied was therefore patently false, which should also call into question their other allegations on this matter. A copy of the check can be provided upon request.

I am unable to comment extensively on this matter at this time because Ms. ***** in her last text said she would be taking this matter up with her attorney. We have contacted our attorney, as well. Ms. ***** tried to file a fraudulent claim with our insurance company which has been denied and also is being reviewed by an attorney. Ms. ***** spoke to the insurance agent directly and told her we did a great job when she tried to file the insurance claim. The texts she refers to in her complaint have all been saved and she is not being completely truthful about the content of the texts. I will say *************************** agreed verbally to have the fence removed and they were both home when the work was done. We could only use our equipment if the fence was removed if they had said no don't remove the fence then we would have left and they could have hired someone else. It was their choice to proceed with the work and Mr. ***** agreed to removal of the fence and to pay the extra amount, which we should have got in writing.
