I was in school trying to finish my Masters degree, I had 3 classes remaining and was advised to take one class so I could finish in spring with my final 2 classes. Well I was getting financial aid, then after completing my employer would reimburse. What they didnt inform me was if you only took 1 class you wouldnt qualify for financial aid, and it left me with a 4700 bill out of pocket that I couldnt pay. I feel as an advisor that information should have been disclosed and then I could have made my decision or arrangements to pay. By the advisor not advising me correctly I am now in collecting and having my credit score affected by this action and I cant complete my Masters until this is resolved and that is adversely affecting my mental psyche. I would like them to own up to their mistake, because that is what an advisor job is to ensure that students have all resources and tools to succeed, and that was not afforded to me in this situation.Customer response

Im not liable for this debt with Tulane University. This student loan was charged off in 2010 and was previously removed from my credit in 2018 Under FCRA, 15 U.S. Code 1679c - Disclosures, The credit bureau must remove accurate, negative information from your report only if it is over 7 years old This was never paid and was charged off in 2010 making it 14 YEARS AGO- DOUBLE THE ALLOWABLE TIME. Tulane has also reaged this debt- re-aging is an illegal act due to FCRA Section 623(5)(A). This law states:In general. A person who furnishes information to a consumer reporting agency regarding a delinquent account being placed for collection, charged to profit or loss, or subjected to any similar action shall, not later than 90 days after furnishing the information, notify the agency of the date of delinquency on the account, which shall be the month and year of the commencement of the delinquency on the account that immediately preceded the action.Further Tulane intentionally accepted funds in error for the Federal governed, through nelnet, of a canceled consolidation, which also reaged the date of delinquency and increasing the number of late payments on my credit. The debt was also assigned to the federal governed, thus doubling my student loan debt.
