Avoid using this company so you can spare yourself from going through the nightmare that I did. I strongly discourage you from doing any business with the owner, ***********************, as he is a shady guy. ***** is unethical, unprofessional, unreliable, dishonest, and does not have nearly the skills and experience that he claims to. In December 2021 I gave ***** a deposit for a large renovation project (new front deck, back deck, screened in back porch, front door, back patio slider, roof, and siding) that was supposed to begin in mid January 2022 and be completed by April 1, 2022. ***** did not start the project until March and completed it at the end of July 2022. All the while he lied to me by telling me that he had all the materials in his shop and then when it came time to do the work I was told he was waiting on materials and then there were times he told me that workers would come and put in a full days work and they either did not show or put in just a couple of hours or half a day. It was just one lie or excuse after another which became very frustrating and stressful. It literally made me physically ill and affected my mental health and quality of life as well. The contract stipulated that I would pay 1/3 as a deposit then 1/3 when the job started and a final 1/3 when the job was completed. After paying the first 1/3 in December and then the second 1/3 in March, ***** frequently asked me for more and more money above and beyond what I was contractually obligated to. In good faith (and desperate to finally have this project completed) I gave ***** more money at the beginning of June and was promised that the project would be completed in the next one to two weeks. ***** took advantage of me, kept not showing up and not doing work, and finally due to my exasperation and having some strong words with him, ***** finally finished the job on July 25 (almost 4 months past the promised date noted in the contract). The men that were working for ***** were great and diReview from Tim C

Stay far away from *****, and hire literally anyone else. He is unreliable, untruthful and as unethical as a contractor can get in my opinion. He took money, did not delivery anything close to what he promised and hired to do, and then claimed he needed more money to continue. He could not explain where he spent the original money and we caught him with so many untruthful excuses and stories that I cannot say enough bad things about my experience. I would stay a mile away from this guyReview from Christopher Y

In the beginning of April 2021, we hired *********************** (DBA Upper Deck Builders) to perform multiple projects including demolition and building. First, they were to demo our current sunroom, 2nd floor deck, and stairs leading from our living room into our back yard. UDB were then meant to build two new decks including a smaller second floor deck and a screen house. Demolition of the sunroom and small decks did not begin until mid-November 2021. We were told he would be ordering the materials and getting to work ASAP. (We were unaware at the time, but ***** had not actually secured a permit for our project before performing this demolition. We only found out because the town inspector came to check the site.) ***** did not begin actual construction until March 2022. Between April 2021 and March 2022, ***** convinced us to build a 3-season room instead of a screen house. We were informed this would save money since it wouldnt require additional decking for the floor. With this reduction in cost, we negotiated several other modifications. With each modification, we were assured by ***** that the cost would remain the same since some changes reduced the cost while others increased. We were assured it evened out, so to speak. Although construction began in March, the work was extremely sporadic and unreliable. ***** and his employees would show up maybe 1 or 2 days out of the week, only staying for a few hours. By the time he finished with the Decking portion of the decks we noticed that the two half's of the deck were laid at different angles. He gave excuses as to why he did this (intentionally). When we told him this was unacceptable and came up for a solution to fix it he stated he needed more money. His reason was increase of material costs. When asked for a detailed list of what he's spent and on what, and what he needs to buy and current prices he refused to send us a hard copy.Review from Michael B.

I originally engaged Upper Deck Builders before Memorial Day to replace 9x3 deck that is 2 feet off the ground with a 10x10. They quoted $7500. They asked for 1/3 down, which was a deposit of $2500 plus $300 for the Permit, he had no problem cashing the $2800 check the same day I gave it to him. I was told the initial $2500 was for demo of the 9x3 deck. Another $2500 for design of the 10x10 replacement and the final $2500 for constrcution of the new deck. I was told that they would have the permit requests into the Building Inspectors Office that week. That was the week of May 31 to June 4th. Nothing happened after they recieved the initial Deposit. No email, no phone call absolutely dark. The emails that I have received from them over the course of the last 2 months give nothing but excuses and no committals. To date nothing has been done or scheduled. I fired them 2 weeks ago and asked for my deposit back via email. No response, no phone calls, no emails, nothing. I would avoid Upper Deck Builders like the Plague. The last email I got from him stated that he is still working on the Permit, 2 months later and he still has no permit. Nothing but delays and excuses.I will be filing a claim in small claims court. This is no way to treat a Senior Citizen and Viet Nam Veteran.I found another Contractor that will demo and build 2 decks for $2300.*********************** is useless.Review from Steven B

I would recommend you avoid Upper Deck Builders at all costs. Derek will take your deposit, and delay the project to the point you are beyond frustrated. Derek is terrible at responding to any inquiries, he will delay, delay, delay. I am beyond frustrated and now I am having an issue getting my $4800 deposit back and had to file a complaint with the Attorney Generals Office. I fell I gave him ample time to resolve the issue, but he chose to ignore my messages, and make a false promise of sending my deposit back.. VERY FRUSTATING. I will be sure to let everyone I know to avoid this con man.Review from Brian W

Derek sent contract out with agreed terms and date, 4 days later check and contract were ready for Derek to pick up but he sent a text that night saying he is no longer interested in doing my job as he got a bigger job that he could not say no to. Derek's communication across two days prior to this text was terrible, as he did not return calls or respond back to any text messages. Derek said he was a man of his word and cared to do the right thing, but then flakes on a smaller customer job for a bigger job? I understand the nature of the beast but this is morally wrong and businesses should not perform acts such as these. I was disappointed and waisted 2 days and other contractors time because of this shallowness.Review from Aleksandr O.
