****************************** saw my daughter **** (nineteen-years old) on 10/26/2022 for initial consultation regarding an impacted wisdom tooth. She then underwent removal of wisdom teeth on 11/24/2022.When my wife initially contacted the office, she was told assured that the office a participating provider with our ****** insurance, HMSA. In fact, it took two days to call us back with confirmation of in-network status. ****************** office then accepted our insurance, HMSA, as they were in-network. However, we received an unexpected balance bill of $2571 even though ************** received ~ $1400 from us and the insurance company. Upon contacting the insurance company to inquire, we found out that ************** was not an in-network provider with HMSA, instead it was the practice owner, ***********************************, for whom pre-approval was granted. Hence, my daughter unknowingly received care from **************, an out-of-network clinician. We now find ourselves in the situation that we are out some $2500! We had no reasonable way of foreseeing and avoiding this "bate and switch". and this surprise **** had been anticipated, we wouldn't have proceeded with the surgery in the first place. This deceptive interaction has eroded the doctor-patient relationship built on trust with this practice.
