Several years ago I purchased a GE refrigerator from cedar appliance in *******, *************. I called Cedar yesterday to report that the auger in the icemaker had broken and several plastic pieces had exited through the icemaker. I was informed by Cedar appliance that they would have a service person come to the house on Friday, February 16th. Prior to their arrival they called me that they were on their way and that there was a service charge of $185. When I questioned the amount, they informed me that that they needed to see what was wrong with the refrigerator first. I told them that the plastic from the machine for making ice had started to come out and they were aware of what was wrong with the icemaker. Upon arrival they informed me that there was nothing they can do because it was a GE appliance, and they did not have the parts. However, they informed me that I could order the parts on **** or Amazon and that they had re-search the part number the evening prior to their home visit. They provided the part number which we ordered it on amazon. This is troubling given the fact that they were able to provide the part number, and had indicated to me that they had research the part the night before. If the part was re-searched the night before, why couldnt they have informed me over the phone and therefore avoiding a visit that cost $125. Additionally, they said that if they ordered the part and installed it themself it would cost about $500. They indicated that this is a project that merely involves removing the tray and installing the new one and can be done without their assistance. At this point their visit had concluded, and they requested an adjusted check for $125 for their visit which lasted all of three minutes. In conclusion, I feel as though I was taken advantage of, they knew the issue prior to coming to my home, if they had told me over the phone what I needed to do I certainly wouldve asked them not to come.Business response
