I have used this facility twice before this being the 3rd for my dog,she had been off her food for 2&1/2 days, diarrhea, anorexia. They have in the past treated her with metrothiazole as well as probiotics,They did about 15-1600.$ dollars testing ect xrays. All normal.I was to prepare a bland diet, Its 205 am she's still having diarrhea,I called and told them I would need to have flagal for her the metrothiazole once she starts this diarrhea or won't stop she's lost several lbs in a short time, there are more tests results to come. I just knew this was wrong so I told the tech before leaving yo please ask the vet for the med. To halt the diarrhea but the vet said no.I understand the theory but if you don't stop the diarrhea she will wither away. They said they would call it to Walgreens..They didn't and The calls were disconnected or hung up several times. The woman I spoke to last had an angry aggressive tone and I told her so.My impression is stress and inability to handle the situation as it escalates.Well she's still having diarrhea and tomarrow I hope to have the med she needs to halt it .Then the probiotics will help. This has been a reoccurring event and Could turn life threatening. The last woman I did spoke with slammed the phone down. I would not know how to recommend the facility as it was today..My poor dog .I was a nurse for 40 years and it is difficult and stressful dealing with emergencies and patients and their families but I learned very quickly that the best way to respond to angry upset people is with kindness and listen it take less time overall Because the communication saves time in the end. Some of the staff were kind and understanding.I don't really care if people are rude and short with me I'm still going to try to help my dog.Review from N. **** behaved unprofessionally and then contradicted themselves about the diagnosis of our dog. They did not perform standard testing before prescribing one of the meds, and also did not tell us we could give it as needed. After our dog died, we spoke to our regular vet who was not happy with the treatment VESH gave. Said we should have had an inhaler. Our daughter is a tech at another hospital and said the same thing. But that wasn't our only bad experience there. We had similar bad experiences with other pets before, and with our dog there. The only reason we ever went back is because there isn't another 24 hr vet in the area. Otherwise, we would never have gone back. We've heard similar bad experiences from many other pet owners at VESH.Review from Jennifer P

Brought our two year old male cat into this facility for urinary issues. We were told he had a blockage and they needed to catheterize him.Bloodwork was normal and he stayed there for two days.We picked him up and were sent home with gabapentin for anxiety even though we repeatedly stated that he was not an anxious cat.Following day things declined fast!We were told he was obstructed again and needed to be catheterized again for a minimal of ***** hours!Bloodwork this time wasnt good and he had a uti. They put him on antibiotics (which they should have done after the first procedure).Literally every doctor I spoke to there was giving us different stories.I called to check on him early in the morning and was told they pulled the catheter!I was shocked because it hadnt even been the 36 hours!I couldnt get an answer from them as to why they did this.Woman **** on the phone was extremely rude and didnt want to give me any updates on my cat.She just insisted that I pick him up at 1pm! I stated that I didnt feel comfortable doing this if I couldnt get an update or explanation as to why they pulled the catheter early. In a snarky rude manner she stated that a doctor would call me that afternoon and I scheduled a 6pm pick up.Doctor called me around 4pm to tell me that my cat had an infection,it was in the bladder and was obstructed again. Then continued to tell me that the catheter came out early because she pulled it out on her own!I immediately corrected her on the *** of my cat being a male and that I was told that they removed it.After being on a brief hold she tells me that she wasnt talking about my cat,she was talking about someone elses! She was confused!Ultimately we ended up losing our 2 year old healthy indoor ************* due to these peoples negligence and incompetence!I am 100% convinced that the multiple incompetent doctors who couldnt communicate amongst each other properly were the reason we lost our precious boy.Stay away from this place!!Review from Nancy S.

Dear Nancy,
First and foremost I am so sorry for your loss of Silver. Losing a pet is never easy and seeing them when they are ill is so difficult. Silver was very sick while she was in the hospital and despite our best and most medically appropriate efforts she did not improve. Humane euthanasia was the only option left to alleviate her suffering as her illness did not respond to treatment. Please know that we did everything that we could for Silver. If you wish to discuss this matter further, please contact the management team.
Sincerely,
Hanna J******

This facility is extremely over packed and under sized. Being the only 24 hour hospital centrally located for 2 whole counties, i would think after 2 years of "8-10 hour wait times" and a parking lot where patients spill over into the employee parking from 8 am until 8 pm they would have expanded by now. That would avoid situations like animals with shattered limbs being sedated twice because they sit in a waiting crate for 5 hours waiting to get an x ray before being sent out the door for outpatient care. And then there are things like routinely missing quills, being extremely expensive, vet recommending services from preferred colleagues that aren't needed, and the fact they will not Update you during your 6-7 hour wait in their parking lot until they call you to say "your bill has been approved." so you pay and then wait another 30 minutes for the animal to come out. This is not a one time thing.. i have been to VESH south Deerfield approximately 6 times, and base this information off of patterns. You are likely to not have a quality or expedient experience. My regular veterinarian told me after this last visit i could call him any time of day or night to avoid my animals going through this again. This facility seems to be missing an effective internal process that works for their clients. Patient/customer confidence is at the bottom of VESH south Deerfield's priority list. I would recommend a 2 hour trip one way for a 1 hour hospital visit over south Deerfield VESH.Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital Response

Dear Luke,
I took the opportunity to review Mavericks medical chart for his 3 visits to our facility and I hope that he has made a full recovery from his various ailments. We agree, our facility is crowded. We are hiring and have hired over 50 new staff in the past two years. We were in the middle of an expansion at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, which experienced delays due to the pandemic but it is finally complete. Had we not already been in the process of that expansion we would have been in an even worse place in regards to space than we are now. That being said, the plans for a third expansion have been under way for some time, including another parking lot. We wish this was an instant solution but planning and building take time. We also announced this summer that we will be opening an additional facility, in West Springfield. We hope this will help with some of the wait times experienced as well as shorten the drive for some of our clients. Although our wait times are long, the wait times you have experienced, as well as even longer wait times, are industry standard at this time. There is a huge shortage of veterinarians and technicians nationwide. If you do wish to discuss any medical concerns, please feel free to reach out to our management team directly.
