I own my home, and have paid this company annually to clean my gutters for a number of years. Because the wood gutter on the front of my house was leaking, I hired a ********* to fix it. We discovered that the gutter had never been cleaned. It was packed with dirt, decayed leaves, and debris, which caused the very expensive gutter and the fascia below to rot. It cost me $3,000 to fix.

We have not had communication with this customer in well over a year, and have not been out to clean the gutters since then. The accumulation of debris over a year can be obviously substantial, and cannot be judged after all of this time. It could be understood that if we had come to clean the gutters this year, and there was debris in them, then perhaps there would be an issue, but we cannot be blamed for this issue as we have not serviced the gutters in quite some time and once again, have never been apprised of any complaints.

At least the business admits I am their customer.  The rest of their response is unacceptable.  The business has not heard from me this year because for obvious reasons, I decided against retaining them this year.  Their reasoning that the debris in the gutter was from one year of accumulation is obviously flawed, because the business cleaned other gutters on my house last year and none of them contained inches of dirt and decomposed debris, as this wood gutter did. Although I should be seeking a refund of the $3000 I paid for repairs owing to the business's dereliction, I am only seeking a refund of everything I've paid them for as long as I've been their customer.

The main issue that we have with this complaint is that there has been no contact or communication to indicate any issue before there has been a complaint made here. I have no proof of the issue; and if the customer would have reached out to us at the office and offered any kind of proof to us, then we could have worked together to come to a resolution. I have nothing to go off of and no way to know what the situation was before this very complaint. How can we resolve something that has apparently already been resolved on their end, without anything being offered to the company to observe? We suggest the customer contact the company, which they have not done until this point through the BBB.

      FAQ

      Regards,

I'm surprised at the business's response.  When I initiated this process, I assumed the business would want to know that its workers aren't doing the job it's paying them to do.  I also assumed that it would be interested in satisfying a regular customer.  I did not anticipate that the business would suspect me of lying. I can assure you that I have better things to do than scam small businesses.

I did not climb on a ladder to take photographs of the debris in the gutter. I'll ask the tradesman who fixed the rotting gutter whether he did, and if so, whether he kept them. It may take some time, so please keep this complaint open until you hear from me.

We recently got this phone call and are contacting the customer regarding this. We were not able to respond to the customer before this complaint was placed on the BBB but we are trying to get in touch with them regarding this, as it seems to be a miscommunication which can be resolved quickly with the office given the opportunity to do so.
