Botched my dogs euthanasia procedure: did not bring the right/appropriate medication, and lied about it. She was supposed to be fully sedated before she was euthanized, but they did not properly sedate her. The vet lied and said it was fine, so we had to *hold her down* for them to complete the procedure. She was my first dog, and I regret that I did not have the knowledge to advocate for her. I know now that dogs are meant to be fully, properly sedated for euthanasia.It felt wrong, so I called and spoke the vet and asked her if it was normal for dogs to not get sedated and I expected her to tell me this was normal for dogs. Instead, she admitted that she forgot to bring additional/enough meds, even though she could have. She apologized and called the experience a learning experience. My dog was not a learning experience. Worst of all, instead of telling us she made a mistake and trying to fix it, she rushed through the procedure and lied to cover up what she did. It was negligent not to bring the correct drugs, but it was worse to not have the integrity to admit she made a mistake. I would have driven to the clinic with her to get more medicine, or come to the clinic the next day, or paid them in full and gone elsewhere.After this, I complained and the owners/senior vets at the practice did nothing but dismiss and berate me. They accused me of driving the vet who did the procedure to suicidality by leaving a poor ****** review (it is still visible on ******, and is a standard & completely civil negative review which I have the right to leave). They called my college to report me as unstable because I said I was upset.My biggest concern is this happening to someone else. I do not think that vet should be able to perform euthanasia again without supervision.
