In September of 2012 we contracted Delbert Adams Construction Group (DACG) to construct an addition on our house. DACG subcontracted Starr Systems as the electricians on the project. Part of the Starr's services was to install a Kohler generator. The generator was to be purchased by us but installed by Starr. The generator was installed in the winter of 2012 - 2013. The generator was to operate a majority of our house, but not all of it. The circuits that the generator was to operate were installed on a single, new electrical panel. The generator also came with a load shedding panel that if wired correctly, would shut off circuits on the generator panel if the electrical loan was putting a strain on the panel. If wired correctly, it is a nice backup generator system. On June 28, 2021, the main breaker on the generator panel tripped. This panel operates much of our house and both HVAC units. The weather was near 100 degrees and very humid. I called Clinton Electric to come out and they wrote the attached report. To summarize, the generator was never wired correctly. The 150amp generator panel was being fed from another electrical panel using a 100amp breaker. This overloaded the generator transfer switch, which over time, burnt up the transfer switch connections. This, although wired incorrectly, may have held up if the load shedding panel was operating correctly, but that was not wired correctly and was not doing the job that it was installed for. Clinton Electric temporarily moved one of the HVAC units to the non-generator panel so we could have cold air during the heat wave. Due to supply shortages, it then took until August 16, 2021 to replace the transfer switch and rewire the generator so all the panels were operating correctly. I am asking for DACG to reimburse us for the expense.
