Jennifer ******* contacted the Charles L. Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. on February 11, 2023 to set up funeral arrangements for her father Frank ******* On February 13, 2023, funeral arrangements were made for Mr. Cermak with insurance policies to be used for payment, of which Ms. Parsley was the sole beneficiary.
On February 18, 2023 at 10:59pm, the funeral home answering service received a call from Mr. William ****
saying that he was the brother-in-law of Mr. Cermak and was not informed of his passing, the family wanted to know what happened, and he had questions concerning the death certificate, caller did not request an immediate call back. At 11:34pm on February 18, 2023 the answering service received a second call from Mr. Hahn at which time he stated that the obituary had inaccuracies and omissions, and requested an immediate call back.
On February 18, 2023 at 11:53pm Victor, the funeral assistant, returned Mr. Hanh’s call. Mr. Hahn identified himself as Mr. Cermak’s brother-in-law, and informed Victor that Ms. Parsley was not Mr. Cermak’s daughter. Mr. Hahn was fine with what the funeral arrangements but wanted the obituary on the web site changed to remove Ms. Parsley’s relation as Mr. Cermak’s daughter, and to add other relatives that were left out. Victor told Mr. Hahn that he needed to speak to Ms. Parsley to resolve the situation.
The next day Victor met with Ms. Parsley at the funeral home at which time he explained the conversation he had with Mr. Hahn. For the first time Ms. Parsley admitted that she was not Mr. Cermak’s blood daughter, and that Mr. Cermak had no blood relatives. Ms. Parsley, the signee of the contract, instructed the funeral home NOT to change the obituary on the website.
As for the death certificate, Mr. Dale ******* can go directly to the MD vital check website to order the death certificate. The funeral home does not issue copies of the death certificate, vital check is the only means for anyone to request one. The funeral home has no dealings with Mr. Eberman or Mr. Hahn and therefore will not request a death certificate on their behalf.
