I came for a Maryland inspection today. I do have an older vehicle. The inspection was done and I laid the bill. However, when I drove away my left rear wheel was making a screeching sound that it didn't have prior to the inspection. When I came back and told the inspector my issue, he told me that sometimes things happen when the inspection is taking place. He further went on to say that because my ABS light was on the dash prior to coming in, that's why my hub hearing went bad. My bearing wasn't screeching prior to the inspection and he told me there was nothing he could do and left the shop.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/03/17) */ dan dan 3:05 PM (43 minutes ago) to me My name is Dan, shop manager at Redhill auto. Mr ***** came by our service station on March of 02 2022 and requested a Maryland State inspection for his 19997 Chevrolet Malibu of which we obliged. Just to give a background on procedure for an inspection, we as inspectors are required to perform a road test prior to checking for all safety equipment with vehicles hoisted on the lift. We are also required to take one wheel on the front and one on the rear to check brakes and record specs. Mr ***** vehicle not to mention which is an older make, not only failed for structural rust on the body and frame but also road test, alignment and noise in the rear which was later discovered to be suspension and wheel bearing noise, among other equipments such as struts, control arms, engine mounts, rust in fuel and brake lines and worn tires. To Mr *****s argument, which was that the vehicle was more audible on the rear wheel adjacent to the one we checked for brakes and that we were responsible for failure. To Begin with, we did not remove the wheel that had the noise which was the rear right but we removed the rear left to check for brakes but to say that we should be responsible for a problem that was prevalent prior to inspection is very unfortunate. It's impossible for one to damage a wheel bearing while performing an inspection even just solely based on where it's located or while performing a road test. If you understand how wheel bearing fails you would understand that it begins with a whining noise that can be loud or soft on occasion based on various factors e.g heat, lubrication and even weather, but slowly deteriorates over time, ceases up and fails, as is the case for his vehicle.
