On May 10, 2024, I brought my cat into Village Vet for an exam. She had been vomiting more frequently than usual and I was concerned. I saw Dr. ****** ******. Upon examining her, he said, “This cat has a mass in her stomach.” He took her out of the exam room and into the back to do “quick imaging” and came back to tell me that he suspected, based on what he saw, that the mass was a biliary cyst on her liver. He recommended bloodwork and a urinalysis and warned me that her results would likely be poor. He also recommended that I schedule her for an ultrasound and fine needle aspiration. On May 15, I received a voicemail from Dr. ******, who said that the bloodwork was normal but that there was a trace amount of protein in her urine, which could indicate early kidney failure. He further explained that he felt a fine needle aspiration might not be the best way to proceed—a surgical liver biopsy would be the only thing to truly confirm a biliary cystadenoma. Dr. ******’ sent an email with similar information. I contacted ******** ********** ******* for a second opinion and scheduled the first available appointment on May 29. The vet there felt no mass, nor did he see one (as he did two x-rays). He reviewed her bloodwork and indicated that if she had a cyst on her liver or something suspicious growing, it would likely show in the bloodwork. And he explained to me that trace protein in the urine was likely the result of the cystocentesis that was done to extract the urine sample—not early kidney failure. Finally, on June 5, she went in for an ultrasound. The results were all normal with no indication of a mass anywhere. I have called, emailed and sent a letter to Village Vet asking to be reimbursed for what I paid them as well as what I paid for a second opinion. I have received no response. My last attempt was the letter, which was mailed on July 31.
