****** ********** (“we”) contracted with Wayne ******** of Rural Builders (“Contractor”) to install a metal pole barn ceiling. On March 20, 2023, we gave Contractor a check in the amount of $2,800.00 as a deposit and for materials for the job. The job was to be started and completed on April 21, 2023. On April 21, we received a text from Contractor stating he would have to reschedule because he did not have enough workers. On April 26, we contacted Contractor to find out when he would now start the job. On May 10, Contractor’s wife texted that Contractor was in an accident on April 21 and would not be able to install the ceiling until early June. She asked if we wanted our deposit back. Since it was already mid-May, we chose to wait until early June for the job to get done. On June 7, we texted Contractor to ask when he would start the job. Contractor advised that we were on his schedule for the week of June 19 -23. We texted Contractor on June 20 and June 22. Contractor called to say he would be at our house on June 29. On July 1, we received a text from Contractor advising that he would not be able to complete our job and would mail our deposit back. We texted Contractor on July 9, 12, 15 and 16, with no response and no check. We advised Contractor that we would be seeking legal action. As of today, September 7, 2023, we have had no word and no refund from Contractor.Business response

I was in an accident in late April, I was not able to work for two months from injuries sustained in the accident. I could not complete the job in a timely matter. I’m sending a full refund. Check is going to be sent out today. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused!Customer response

Although the business responded to our complaint, they did not follow through with their intentions to "put a check in the mail". We believe the business does not intend to make good on the monies owed and we are now at a standstill. The business is not responding to a small claims court complaint either. We would like to see the business' rating on the BBB site be changed to indicate our dissatisfaction so that other potential customers will not fall victim to Rural Builders fraud and be cheated as we were. Thank you for your consideration.
