My son was struggling in school so I signed him up at Sylvan Learning Center. Went in for an assessment and they told me how many sessions my son would need and how much to finance through the company they use. I did exactly that. Once I saw this is was a waste of time and money, I took him less and less. I voiced my concerns, they said they would address them but nothing changed. Then the pandemic hit and we stopped going altogether. Earlier this year I called to see how many remaining sessions we had and to see about getting a refund. I have about $2500 in sessions left and they informed me they would NOT under any circumstance refund me. I could either use the sessions, sell them to someone, or lose out on my money. As a single mother, this stings. I have clearly been *******. I am still trying to get my money back and will exhaust all options including contacting the Attorney General and suing. I just want a refund for the service I paid for that I'm no longer receiving. This cannot be legal.Initial Complaint

On ****** XX XXXX we hired Sylvan for *** prep classes for my daughter for ***** for ** ******* + ****** They scheduled her classes to be completed on oct 22 (date that she told us her test would take place) i don't know she got this date, unfortunately for us that was three weeks after the sat test date. We came to find out On September 19th when our daughter told us that Sylvan gave us the wrong date and and the test was actually on oct 1st. She only had 14 hours then so When brought up to them the right dates and that they had scheduled classes wrong but we were told that they had a no refund policy so my daughter had to follow a crazy schedule to make up those hours we already had paid. I went to their office to complain but i was told the person in charge was not available and never contact me to follow upInitial Complaint

My son has been enrolled in Sylvan for the last 6 months. As suggested by Slyvan to prepare and ensure his success into 8th grade. As other complaints have stated Slyvan had promised constant communication between their facility and my sons school to coordinate homework load and course material to ensure he was being tutored on similar relevant materials. No communication has been provided and while my son was attending over the last 6 months his grades continued to fall. Upon investigating my wife and I learned that Sylvan was not in fact contacting my sons school at all nor tutoring him on any relevant assignments information. The only communication we ever received from Slyvan was demanded from them by me personally. This is a service that I had to finance thru Slyvan for a total cost of $5300 and Sylvan has not upheld their end of the agreement by any means. I am now forced to continue paying for "sessions" with Slyvan that are not bringing any type of educational advancement. Slyvan is running a very poor business model and taking advantage of worried parents that are trying to help their children. This practice should not be allowed to continue and my family is not interested in any further work or communication with Slyvan. All we are looking to receive is a refund to cover the remaining payments for the sessions from Slyvan. My son will not continue to be sent to their so-called tutoring sessions where nothing is actually helped, taught or communicated correctly. Please help my family correct this wrong doing and make Sylvan responsible for their predatory business model.Initial Complaint

The Services were not guaranteed as promised. The school was never contacted about my sons progress as promised. I am currently paying for services that were never provided. The director is avoiding me. The supervisor still has not contacted me. Complaint Details I contacted Adam with Sylvan Learning Center wanted to be sure the money that I was going to be paying for my sons classes was going to guarantee him being able to start in 7th grade. I was reassured several times by Adam that They would be in contact with his school and the classes he took during the summer would put him in the 7th grade. Their website also guarantees 100% success rate and I also asked if I was not satisfied with services or if my son did not proceed to the 7th grade would I receive a refund I was advised multiple times yes. Unfortunately Sylvan was not communicating with the school nor did my son move to the 7th grade like I was guaranteed he would. My mother and I had Adam on the line we were both advised his classes that were selected would get him into 7th grade. I contacted Adam and he advised me that his supervisor would contact me. His supervisor had not contacted me at all I have been requesting a contact for the past several months. I was also advised by Adam they could give my son 10 more classes and I was like no why would I put my son through 10 more classes and he wasn't even able to move to the next grade I was advised he only needed 112 classes now your wanting to add 10 more that he does not need, and still would not guarantee him being able to go into 7th grade. I have contacted Adam several times was advised his supervisor would contact me, i still have not heard from Adam or his supervisor. I filed a complaint there has been no contact from Sylvan at all.Initial Complaint

I signed my son up for Sylvan in the hopes that he would learn grammar, phonics, reading, and writing skills. He has been apart of this program for five months yet he has made no significant or noticeable improvements. I've spent $5,300 on this program. I initially tried to have him and his thirty remaining hours moved to a different Sylvan center in Chaska or get a refund on the hours, but I was told that I could not. I took out a loan for these hours and now I am being told that I cannot use them. This is fraud and an outrage. This whole endeavor has been an incredible waste of time and money. I need a refund of the remaining hours.
