I have had Covid for two weeks and been out of work. During this time my bank account balance on my checking account was exceeded and ended up in the negative. I have been a member of this bank since I was 14 years old and never had an unsettled negative balance. I brought two checks to be cashed because it is all the money I have to live on for the next two weeks. The teller stamped them so that I couldn't cash them at another financial institution, and told me she cannot cash them but can only deposit them to my checking negative balance. I tried to cash them at my other bank and they informed me that they cannot cash them with First People's stamp on the back. I asked the teller at First People's why they stamped the checks if they were not going to cash them like I asked, and they have no response. It is highly unethical to prevent me from cashing these checks elsewhere if they are not going to cash them when I have nothing to live on.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/10/05) */ Our standard procedure is to satisfy the negative balance before dispersing cash. The member did not want to do this therefore the checks were returned to her.
