I am writing to formally lodge a complaint against Mr. Chris P*****, a contractor whom I hired to build a garage and mudroom addition to my home. I am a resident of Carroll County, Maryland, and the incident in question involves a substantial financial loss and apparent fraudulent activity that I believe constitutes a criminal offense. I am seeking your assistance in investigating this matter and taking appropriate action against the contractor. On 3/22/2023 and 12/11/2023, I entered two separate contracts with Mr. P*****t of Pickett’s Choice Builders, LLC., who is located at 1213 Liberty Road, Suite J #233, Eldersburg, Maryland, for the construction of a garage and mudroom addition to my residence at **** ****** *****. The agreed-upon cost for this project was ~$21,000 (with allowances) for the mudroom and ~$160,000 (with allowances) for the garage, with an initial payment of $7,000 and $54,000 for commence the work. These payments were made by me on 3/31/2023 and 12/21/2023, respectively, via bank transfers and I have attached copies of the contract and proof of payment for your reference. During the sales process Mr. P***** assured me that the project would begin by end March or early April and be completed in approximately 4-6 months. However, no work has commenced to date. Over the past several months, I have made numerous attempts to contact Mr. P*****t to confirm a commencement date and project plan, but my efforts have been met with missed meeting, vague responses or complete silence. Given the significant sum of money involved and the blatant disregard for my request and our contractual agreement, I firmly believe that I have been a victim of theft and fraud. This belief is bolstered by Mr. P*****t’s evasive behavior and the complete lack of progress on the project. I have also learned that Mr. P*****t has engaged in similar behavior with other clients, which further substantiates my concern that he may be systematically defrauding homeowners.
