- Service or Repair Issues
- Status:
- Unanswered
Incident date: 10/5/2023 We called the plumber to replace a single damaged slip nut between the kitchen sink and its P-trap and to snake the associated outflow pipe. No other changes were discussed. We had had that area redone by the same company just two months prior, insisting on a removable trap to avoid cutting pipes in this exact situation. We went over the work to be done with the plumber, showing him which slip nut to replace and why. The plumber then, without our consent, cut out the removable P-trap and install an glued-in P-trap. This change also left little to no capacity for future repairs. The actions taken by the plumber were so far outside the scope of the work discussed as to be inconceivable. The changes made are documented in images within invoice_***********. As a result of Hughs' unapproved changes to our plumbing, the next backup will require emergency servicing and complete replacement of the under-sink plumbing. Had they performed only the approved work, we could handle the same situation ourselves. Based on Hughs' bill for the initial re-piping, restoring the proper configuration should cost about $1,000 **** ******************g), plus any emergency surcharge if a backup occurs before the work is done. We have contacted Hughs and they have refused to correct the problem. Notes for invoice_***********: pg 8: removable P-trap, properly removed. Note garbage disposal pipe has not yet been cut. This shows the plumber knew the trap was removable prior to cutting. Pg 5 & pg 7: removable P-trap has been cut out (without notice or consent). Note t garbage disposal pipe has now been cut. pg 7: a new, non-removable P-trap has been installed (again, without notice or consent). brokenSlipNut.jpg: Damaged slip nut prior to this incident (top of the T junction). badPipe.png: another perspective of the piping after the unapproved work. Note lack of a slip joint and multiple glued joints, which should not be for two month old plumbing.
