It amazes me that this place is highly reviewed! I've had nothing but trouble with them. Almost a yr ago had a trans r&r done. Pick it up and the exhaust is vibrating against part of the subframe. Didn't do that when I took it in and why they thought that was acceptable also amazes me. So they fix that. Days later check engine light comes on for the O2 sensor so I just went ahead n replaced it. Drive it about an hr comes back on again. Pulled the code same thing. I went ahead and cleared it not thinking that'll be important later. So I find O2 sensor harness smashed behind one of transaxle bolts. Take it back and wrote detailed instructions where and what happened. Pick it up and drive light comes on again. Looked and it wasn't even touched. They just checked codes and since I had just cleared it they didn't find anything. They didn't even bother to look where I left a detailed description. Being nice n understanding I politely take it back with the light on and told them again about the smashed harness. They fix it and said our bad. Here's when things get dangerous. Start having this intermittent no start. I figured starter prob bad since it was the original. I replaced it myself and still have the same problem. Two times the car just died on me while I was driving. Once happened as I was pulling out into traffic. Luckily I put it in neutral n it restarted. Had it been my mom driving it could have caused a serious accident. Anyway get some battery cables and as I'm getting ready to remove the ground cable from the trans I noticed it was LOOSE. Plus I noticed there was a bolt missing. I was so fed up with this place I didn't bother saying anything. Figure its behind me and I'll never take it there again. So here we are months later. They have a new master mechanic with 30 yrs experience and it is close to where I live so thought I'll give them another try. Have this knocking in my steering. I replaced the half shaft figuring it could b bad as it is a old car. Here's the funny part when it didn't fix it I decided I'll take it to a professional cause I don't just want to waste money on unnecessary parts. Eric calls me says it's the intermediate shaft. I say ok. A day later he calls and says tie rod is bad. I say ok. Couple days go by and I didn't hear anything. Called and he never returned my call for maybe another day or two. He calls and says it's ready. When I went to pay I seen they replaced the tie rod, lower control arm and stabilizer link. Nothing anywhere about this intermediate shaft. I didn't say anything cause I figd if it's fixed then it's fixed. My mom drives it the next day and says its making that noise again but it was only intermittent. So we drive it a couple weeks and now the drivers side wheel started locking up while driving. Could be a deadly outcome. Take it back with full tank o gas and told Eric I didn't want it back till it's fixed cause my mom drives this car. Told him it mostly happens after its been driven minimum 30 minutes. Told him to take it home or whatever he needs to do. I see it sitting in the same spot in the parking lot for 2 days. Call him and he kinda has a attitude like I'll call when I fig something out. When I worked in this business and someone brought their car back for a warranty issue everything was dropped and that customer became a priority! Anyway I waited days again through the weekend and nothing. I stopped by and I'm furious at this point. Told the lady Eric needs to call me about the Pontiac. She says ok. I mean I spent hundreds of dollars on parts and ]abor that didn't fix anything. I think I deserve some kind of answer what's going on? Did you figure something out? Hours go by and he's clearly not returning my call so I call again. I'm biting my tongue to be nice and ask him about the intermediate shaft and why these other parts were replaced that obviously didn't fix anything. He gets a attitude and says those were OE parts and you should have seen them clanking and clunking. That's a flat out lie and u told him the lower control arms and tie rods have been replaced twice the last time hasn't even been 2 yrs. So then he's telling me about the problem with the rack which is what's causing my original COMPLAINT! Says about having to track down parts and how they wanna fix it. I can go online and get that rack anywhere the same day. I tell to go ahead and continue but the more I thought about it I don't want them to ever touch my car again. So here I am out of about 600 parts and labor that didn't fix anything and I still have my original COMPLAINT! Now I'll havta take it somewhere else and spend probably another 800 to 1200 bucks. That 600 I just wasted there would have helped out. Bottom line 40 west auto care and towing are unprofessional, incompetent and down right SHADY!
