The 2020 Toyota Supra was purchased for $60,665. Trending Motorsports Techniques (TMT) took possession of car in June of 2021 to make modifications. In June 2022, The Frederick City Police Department was notified that TMT would not return car. TMT advise the car was at the tuner and not to contact tuner. 2nd police notification. July 19th, 2023 The owner had paid a total of $22,360.53 to TMT for modifications. Junior told the officer that the owner needed to pay an additional $1,200.00 tuning fee. The tuner advised TMT dropped the car at his shop for tuning but the car will not start. The tuner advised he has been asking TMT for months to come and get the car. Junior agreed to drop the tuning charge and turn possession of the car over to the owner. The owner had the car towed to the Toyota dealership in Frederick MD. There was only one key FOB with the car.  TMT advised they cannot find the 2nd key FOB. ******* Toyota advised the cost of another FOB is $1199.96. ******* found vehicle will not start. ******* replaced a dead battery, and damaged power distribution box. They found the vehicle has 44 codes in the system and the internal control units are not communicating. They replaced the engine control module, body control module, and spark plugs. The total cost of Toyota services performed to get the control units to communicate was $6245.27. ******* service advisor advised the additional repairs needed to fix the vehicle are more than the vehicle is worth. The car was taken to a second turner and the second turner also advised the car is not worth fixing. TMT had the car in their possession for more than 2 years and the car was not operational once it was back in the possession of the owner. The second tuner advised the cost to bring the car into a safe operating condition may cost $30,000. Retribution attempts have been made directly with TMT, and they have ignored all requests.

2020 Toyota Supra "phase 1" still had Aftermarket parts that are not considered street legal regardless. Mr. V wanted more power out of his engine. In order to achieve his request to make more horse power and have the car more responsive, we upgraded the appropriate parts so that it would reflect Mr. V's wishes. We are not responsible for "making" the Supra illegal, we are a mechanical shop that provides customer service and meet the requirements based on customers' desires. please keep in mind that Mr. V removed the vehicle from our shop unfinished which he should of read our terms and conditions before accusing us, we are not responsible for anyone else's potential mishaps.

      Complaint: 20950358

I am rejecting this response because:

The bottom line is TMT had the car for 2 years and would not return the car to the owner.  TMT would not even tell us where the car was until we arrived at their shop with a Frederick City Police Officer.  They reluctantly contacted the car tuning shop where they had sent the car.  The car tuner told us on the phone with the police officer present that the car arrived at his shop and would not start.  He advised he  had been calling TMT for months to return and pick up the car. We then we sent a tow truck to retrieve it and had it towed directly to ******* ****** ** *********.  ******* advised the car will not start and repairs needed were beyond their capabilities.  ******* advised the car would need to be towed from their facility.  The car has since been towed from ******* to ********* *********** in Coniwingo, MD.  ********* *********** contacted TMT and inquired as to the work performed by TMT, so they would have a better idea of the repairs needed.  TMT refused to talk to ********* ***********.  ********* *********** took photos and documented the work done by TMT.  ********* *********** estimated the car repairs could be as high as $30,000 to restore the car to a working and safe condition.  ********* *********** advised they would testify in court of the damage done to the car by TMT.

      Sincerely,

      ******* ********

      Complaint: 20950358

I am rejecting this response because:

As stated previously, the car has been deemed to costly to repair by ******* ****** ** *********, MD and ********* *********** of Conowingo, MD after TMT had the car for more than 2 years.

The Frederick City Police body camera recording proves that Trending Motorsports Techniques was not willing to tell us where the car was located, and attempted to get another $1,200.00 tuning fee.

The body cam recording contains a statement from the tuner saying the car was inoperable and that he had been requesting TMT take the car back to their facility.

Once again, the car is to costly to repair after being worked on for more than 2 years by Trending Motorsports Techniques, as has been testified by ******* ****** ** *********, MD and ********* *********** of Conowingo, MD.

The Frederick City Police and the 2 other shops mentioned in this case can verify the facts stated by the consumer.

      Sincerely,

      ******* ********
