BEWARE!!! In 2020, I hired Dade Star to "refresh" a ten year old townhome that I purchased. Soon after, I filed a complaint with MHIC and sued him in district court for damages caused by unworkmanlike performance. In Oct 2023, after a trial, the judge found in my favor and I was awarded a judgement of $26,393.09, plus $46 in court costs. Dade Star has made no attempts to pay so I am now going through the MHIC Guaranty Fund to recover some of the judgement. The rest I will pursue through other means. Several of the items were completed poorly - Stairs, tile shower floor, first level wood floor install, and installation of gas cooktop. Shower floor was completely replaced because it leaked and mortar fell apart. The first level wood floor was replaced due to improper installation. The last straw was the stairs. I wanted the carpet replaced with hardwood treads. I found a company that made retro-fit treads which were cosmetic and not meant to be used without the subfloor tread. I sent the install video to Dade Star before purchasing the materials and they said yep, they can do. I was present for the second day of the install and watched them rip out the subfloor tread and place the retro-fit tread over the hole. I stopped worked and contacted the owner. Long story short, they told me that's how they had to install and they would add sufficient supports. I immediately noticed the wood bowing as well as stress cracks. As part of this case, I had two holes opened in the drywall to see what they did and it was clear they sloppily added supports. I recently had the stairs gutted and fully replaced. We were able to see the full scope of the poor work as not only were supports missing throughout, they left ALL the construction trash under the stairs. I have pictures. This company refused to take responsibility and assumed I would not pursue this to the fullest. Unless you're prepared to spend money in court, I highly recommend NOT hiring Dade Star.
