I get my annual well-visits and paps in the summer, I called to schedule a pap smear/annual since I am new to the area and don't have an OBGYN here, I also mention I am having irregular bleeding, but it's likely normal due to a preexisting health condition but taking care of my health is important. I have Tricare and it fully covers pap smears. I get a bill, which surprised me since my annuals are covered and call my insurance, they tell me that Capital Women's Care filed my appointment as a point-of-service visit instead of a well-visit. I call Capital Women's Care and they indeed filed it as a regular office visit (even though, I know my insurance well and have no problem getting referrals if I need to be seen by a specialist). Since this was my annual, and I'm due, I didn't need a referral and even called my insurance to confirm that. In the past many of doctors have performed an STD test at the same time as a pap so when the doctor said she would do an STD test, that has always been standard at every practice I have ever gone to. At NO POINT did they tell me this wasn't an annual well-visit. They then billed me $180 for this appointment and it turns out- I wasn't even given a pap smear in the first place. I feel like I was violated and scammed, on top of being patronized and talked down to by the nurse practitioner.
