My bank, Bethpage Federal Credit union, left a voicemail for me on June 7 2024, notifying me that it had mistakenly reported me as deceased to the Federal government. They confused my tax ID with that of a deceased client, in their regular reporting to the federal government. The federal government thinks I’m dead. My social security has been suspended. I have to make repeated trips to a far away social security office to prove 1) that I am alive 2) I am not an imposter. My life is in chaos as a result. I need the Bank to help repair the problem it created. **** *** who left me the voicemail on 6/7, and with whom I was able to speak once on June 10, nor anyone at Bethpage will return my calls. Bethpage will not provide me with a fax number or e mail to send written correspondence to the employee (** ***) who contacted me about the error. After I left 5 messages almost every day for one week mr coh phoned me on 6/21 and I was unable to pick up the call. I left a message for him to phone me on Monday at 2 pm. He didn’t and never phoned me again. There is no readily available contact information available for any manager or executive at the Credit Union. The corporate office is in MD where **** *** seems to work. The Bank has a role to play and specific things they are obligated to provide me with to assert that I am alive and indeed me, to correct the egregious error it made and I need to speak with them. I would like for one of the 3 members of the Bethpage supervisory committee to urgently contact me. What the bank did to me did not happen in a vacuum. They did it to me while I am in the middle of a very serious crisis and have created a new dimension to the hell I am in. It is the banks responsibility to make themselves available to me, not for me to chase them.

The company has stated over the phone to many misleading information and now wants the balance in full but can't prove how and why the balance in full needs to be paid. Have called them Oct 3rd 2023 trying to pay monthly payment was told I was in collections and was gonna get a call back but never did. Then call the week after and got a Monica in collections that stated the loan was closed and paid off. Following up this had called back again and was told that a supervisor with need to involved due to the money not being applied to the loan. Never got a call. Recently called them again in Nov 3rd and never got any answers as to why the account was in collections but was told that there was nothing to be paid. Most recently they had a tow truck come and take the vehicle on Dec 7th and was told that in order to get the vehicle back had to pay the balance in full. Was not going to accept that due to the fact no one in the company could explain the previous problem. Was told I needed to prove that payments were being made due to the fact of them stating they haven't received any payments since Aug 2023. Which is a lie and I sent in the bank statement proving they had been taking out the money from the account. Following up back on the request of the agent and sending in all the proof. They wanted proof that insurance was on the car between certain months. And after sending them that information they have no gone back to saying that no payment has been made on the account since Aug 2023. As well as them stating that they never spoke to me at all in Sept or Oct about anything. It's one thing then it's another. They say one thing then turn around and say something different and also give out false information. I just want my vehicle back that I had been making payments on. As well as them correcting how they conduct business with people. To many lies and confusion come from them.

Dear ******** ******,  Your correspondence to the Better Business Bureau (“BBB”) was received by Bethpage Federal Credit Union (“Bethpage”), and we appreciate the opportunity to review and address your concerns.   In your correspondence dated December 19, 2023, you indicate that Bethpage has not provided accurate information regarding the payments to your auto loan, resulting in the repossession of the vehicle.  It is my understanding that a partial payment in the amount of $379.54 was remitted on October 3, 2023, and applied to your receivable due on September 6, 2023, however, no additional payments were received for the receivables due on October 6, 2023, and November 6, 2023.   We attempted to contact you by via mail at the address we have on file for you on October 26, 2023, and November 5, 2023, regarding your payments, and a Final Demand letter was issued on November 21, 2023.    Further, as of September 1, 2023, your vehicle was not properly insured with full coverage as per your Loan and Security Agreement, and an insurance policy with a premium cost of $2,424.00 was purchased at a cost to you, increasing your monthly obligation to $561.42.  We attempted to contact you via mail regarding your insurance coverage and premium at the address we have on file for you on July 13, 2023, August 10, 2023,  and September 4, 2023.  A Final Notice was issued on September 6, 2023.    Our records indicate that an address change was not submitted prior to December 7, 2023, and we made reasonable attempts to contact you regarding your delinquent payments and the lapse in your insurance coverage. Additionally, on December 11, 2023, and December 19, 2023, you were advised that the bank records provided to us via email by you did not sufficiently document payments made to your auto loan after October 3, 2023, and you were unable to provide evidence that the vehicle was insured from May 5, 2023, through September 1, 2023.  This is the second repossession of the vehicle in 12 months, and the balance in full is required to recover the vehicle.  I hope this brings clarity to the situation.    If you need any additional assistance or have any questions, you can reach me at (516) 310-3066. I am available Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM, EST.   Sincerely,   Stephanie ****** Bethpage Federal Credit Union Member Advocate, Member Experience
