Not very adept at customer service. I received a lengthy email touting an upcoming 3-day Fast Track Costa Rica Conference, which coincided with a group tour I will be on starting there the same day the conference ends. It sounded ideal except...their advertised dates of the conference are Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20, 2024. However, in 2024, the dates are Friday, July 19 to Sunday, July 21--which is the same date my group tour begins. Before signing up for the conference and paying good money, I called the customer service number to ask about the conflict of email published dates of the conference versus actual dates on the calendar, and was told they would check internally and get back to me in 24-48 hours. After 48 hours, I called a second time and was told the same answer from another person--it would take 1 to 2 days MORE to simply confirm the conference dates. Why couldn't they contact the conference organizers while I waited on hold to confirm the correct dates and tell me there and then so I could finish processing my reservation to this conference that was touted as "sure to be sold out so act now and reserve your spot."? As of now, I am not impressed with the lack of customer service to give them near $1,000 for this 3-day conference, especially if they cannot answer something as simple as confirming the exact dates of the conference. It almost feels like they cut-and-pasted the wording of the entire email from another year when the dates published were correct. To date, I have still not received an email--as promised--with an answer regarding the correct dates. I am leery of how reputable this company is and whether they actually provide what they advertise at said conference.Review from Fernando N

So far it's felt like a scam. Signed up and got a lot of information that is somewhat outdated and doesn't deliver useful information on how to actually "fly private for $99" or any of their other claims they use as hooks to get subscribers. Once in, you're inundated with emails suggesting they'll teach you "part time income streams", "how to retire in Panama for dollars a day", "how to invest in real estate in Portugal", and more, but after reading the pages and pages of the articles or sitting through the hour(+) long webinars (someone reading a script to you), they don't actually teach you any of the tactics; it's just a sales pitch the whole time to get you hooked on the idea, then sell you another webinar or training that is over priced, considering the content of those is available free online. Overall, I would never pat for their products again.Review from Janice B

What IL does it says “Discount” to get you hooked. Then when you sign up there a dozens of emails a week. Mostly to promote additional purchases. But saying sign up and get this for free. The old saying “NOTHING IS FOR FREE” should be IL MISSION STATEMENT” I’ve tried 5/6 times to order “Receive” what was said was free or a part if the last purchase to only learn!! I had to buy another “LINK” of advertisement !! Then when I did 99.00 or 87.50 or 49.00 many times “next Cabo” or “Portugal living” I had to buy something else to read after buying that link. Or in Baja scenario. I was directed to the website which had dozens of questions ti buy something before I could get to. Baja then finally directed to the “JEFF’s Mastermind #003. More sales more sales and now two or three emails a day from him. This is a crazy and unprofessional way to get us baby boomers on board !!!! I simply want to buy and receive what I paid for. And not be marketed like I am some stupid human. You list IL. I’m out. Others if you will see the same.Review from Mike K

This magazine is a gross misrepresentation of facts. Costa Rica is not a cheap place to live. Even if you look at places far from ocean. You can expect cost in excess of $3000 per month. Buying property requires very expensive legal fees. The fact is only medical care is less expensive. This doesn't include prescription drugs as you will pay a lot for this. This magazine let's you believe you can rent places for $300/month. This is true if you don't mind living as an improvised tico.Review from Kelly L

I subscribed to IL as a real estate agent who has clients that want to advertise. Although I finally got someone to reach out to me personally, after a few emails and filling out the forms online, the information they gave me did not enable me to make an ad, because again, no one responded. Frustrated, I gave up. I had unsubscribed from most emails, but continued to receive them, always warning me that ¨your subscription is about to expire!¨ Which was just a lie. I had paid for an entire year. There is a line at the bottom of the email saying ¨to unsubscribe click here¨... but there is NO live link, just plain text. Every email and link seems to lead to a new sales pitch, and I kept thinking ¨these are targeted to retired folks who may not be that tech savvy.¨ It is sketchy and predatory. If you fill out the online forms for customer service, you are told ¨there has been an error in processing your request.¨ The only way I can get through to anyone is via phone, and those customer service agents are very friendly, but don´t have any authority to solve my problems. Some of the information provided by IL may be valuable to people looking to move overseas, but their aggressive and predatory practices of trying to upsell and upsell and upsell and renew renew renew are terrible. I would be willing to bet that their subscription numbers are only as high as they are due to these predatory practices, and people being unable to find the right page to unsubscribe. I would not recommend subscribing to this magazine.Review from Claire F

This is a dangerous and misleading magazine targeting seniors. They never discuss the political situation in any given country. A senior or senior couple could buy a home in a foreign country, based on advice from this magazine, and subsequently find themselves in an unstable political situation, like Ecuador where a man running for office was just assassinated by drug cartels.Review from Jeannette G

Website/online magazine filled with current information about moving overseas. Their writers are reporting current data to consider life abroad- real estate, taxes, food, retiring/working...they cover a lit of ground. There are opportunities to ask questions of experts. If getting serious about moving abroad, they have conferences to help with all information needed to make sound decisions. If you subscribe as a member, the website provides additional content. The print edition was stopped in 2023...miss it...but online contains whole mag. I have just a regular membership. One dislike is they constantly send endlessly long emails that never reach the point...delete before finishing. They do try to sell other services. Its been challenging to get support for what should be a password reset.Review from Lucille B

Didn’t get my Spanish webinar I order thru their online presentation by Warren Hardy. My first experience with them and what a disappointment, getting nothing but a run around as to why I hadn’t received my login to my course.International Living Response

Dear *******, please accept our apologies for this frustrating experience. We do see that you contacted us around Feb 14th, and we mistakenly directed you to a different advertising partner. We have reached out to the correct one, Warren Hardy's Speak Spanish, to get your login credentials for Webtutor. We will send those over straight way. We hope you give us a chance to make this right, especially as this was your first experience with International Living. We understand though if you do not wish to keep the course, and will of course honor your refund request, if that is what you prefer. Thank you.Review from Joel M

I've been a subscriber for a couple of years now, and have found that the organization has delivered on everything I expected. I attended the 2021 Conference via livestream and was expecting hard sells on products (similar to Real Estate conferences in the past). I was pleasantly surprised to find that the information provided during the conference was useful, there was no hard sell, and I was able to contact two or three of the knowledgeable presenters via email provided during the conference and my emails were promptly replied to. As a result of our interaction with IL, we are seriously looking to retire to France in the next few years, and feeling confident about what that change will take and the benefits we can anticipate from the move.
