The school expelled me without any prior notification that I was in danger of being expelled. Their contract clearly states that I should have received Satisfactory progress evaluations which should have been signed off by the Director and myself at 450 hours, 900 hours and 1200 hours. I received no evaluation reports. I was called into the office and expelled on 3/22/22 and then provided "all" unsigned evaluation reports that they neglected to provide me with before they expelled me. The school told me that I had only completed 400 and something hours in a year. The hours were later adjusted when I was able to show them proof that I was present on days that they said that I was absent. Now the school is telling me that I owe them almost 13,000.00 because I was enrolled in the school for over 50% of the enrollment period. I believe that they purposely and intentionally neglected to notify me of the attendance warning to ensure that I would still be liable for the full balance of tuition. I was told by the owner that I can re-enroll at the school in 6 months for 100.00 but the school is refusing to give me my transcript so that I can enroll in another school and not have wait the 6 months to complete the program. Right now I am sitting idle...can't enroll in another school and having to wait 6 months for Paul Mitchell to let me re-enroll. I am requesting that Paul Mitchell adhere to the contract and admit that they expelled me wrongfully and without any prior notification. I would like for them to rescind the almost 13,000.00 balance, because they neglected to inform me per their contract in a timely manner. I would like for them to release my transcript so that I can complete that program at another school. I also experienced a death in my family and was denied to have the absence counted as "excused absences" which also was counted against me. I was never given the option to do a Leave of Absence.

Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2022/06/27) */ RE: ****** ******* To whom it may concern: Regarding the above complaint, ****** was fine at her 450 evaluation which was on August 3, 2021. She was at 93.91% attendance. It is our school policy that students must stay at 90% or above in order to keep their financial aid and to be able to graduate at 90% or better as stated in our catalog, all our correspondence as well as the enrollment contract. ******, as you can see on these attendance sheets, completely started missing every other, if not two, three or four days at a time. You can only miss 150 hours total so at her current 711.33 hours; she could have missed approximately 71 hours. She had missed a total of 447.67 hours as of this point. She met with Sharon **** and Sharon let her know she would need to speak with the Director, and she kept telling Sharon that she would not be getting expelled because "we all have a life you know." When I talked to her, I let her know what the different options were, and I told her that she would be expelling herself since she would not be able to make up all of the missed time. I also told her that she had not done her financial aid for the previous payment period. We also advised that we could help her with it if she needed help. I never saw again from that point on, and I am now receiving this letter from you. You may want to look at her attendance on the sheets attached so that you can understand how she was not even close and as previously stated she never even got to the 900-hour evaluation because she put herself so far behind. Obviously, she cannot get an official transcript until she is paid in full. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance to you. If you have any questions concerning this process, please feel free to contact me either by email: *******@aol.com or cell phone 301.366.8678. Sincerely, Ed ****, Director Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2022/06/27) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Thanks for your response. I do admit that I was going through some family issues that caused me to miss time. The reason that I sent the complaint to BBB is because you didn't properly notify me, as your contract says, in a timely manner. Per your contract, I was supposed to receive written evaluations and notification at set periods of time or when I was in warning status. Can your company provide signed documents showing that you had warned me of my status? If I had been notified in a timely manner, 2 things could have happened. I would have pushed my self harder or made the decision to withdraw from the school prior to owing the full balance. I was NOT afforded the opportunity to do either. WE had a contract with each other. You can't enforce your contract only when it fall in your favor. I think that the school should accept the fault and be honest. I was notified intentionally at the last minute, when my back was against the wall so that they could hold me responsible for the full balance. Per you response, I met with Sharon 8/3/21 and I was in good standing. What happened from 8/3/21 to 3/22/22? When you saw that I was "slipping" no one thought to call me in the office to find out what was going on? To see if I needed assistance, maybe a leave of absence? WE had a contract, wasn't supposed to be a one side contract. Just as much as I was responsible for my attendance, you were supposed to notify me in writing when you saw that I was reaching "warning" status. Consumer Response /* (4200, 20, 2022/07/23) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Seems the school is failing to address my issue. I am aware that I had missed time. I am not disputing that. What I am saying and have said in the past is that I was not given the opportunity to turn things around because the school did not notify me appropriately (according to THEIR contract) of my student status. I was NOT called into the office to talk about my attendance until I was called into the office to be expelled. If I had been called into the office prior to reaching that stage, 1 of 2 things could have happened, I may have taken a leave of absence or possibly may have withdrawn. I was NOT given the opportunity to withdraw prior to being responsible for the entire balance. Again....not saying that I didn't miss days due to family and personal issues. I'm saying that I was NOT called into the office to discuss anything about my attendance or what options I may have had to prevent being expelled. Seems that the school is purposely not addressing my true concerns.
