Ridgely Auto Care completed the replacement of my timing chain at around 100,000 miles and routine oil changes and vehicle checks to my 2014 Honda CRV. Subsequently, this vehicle experienced complete engine failure on 8/25/23 during a planned road trip and short term volunteer work in California. Honda service center diagnosed the cause of the engine failure as a large amount of metal shards in the engine and oil from worn out rod and main bearings. They also noted the original cause of these increasing metal pieces over time was the incorrect installation of the new timing chain in 2021. The cost of an engine replacement was over 14K and more than the value of the car. This was an extremely inopportune time as I was not in Maryland, did not have plans to return for a couple months, and planned to use this vehicle for the foreseeable future. I also needed a vehicle for the volunteer work and had to buy a car in CA. I recently returned to MD only to find out that CA is not a reciprocal state with MD and I owe double sales tax just adding $1,700 in costs. I wrote an email to Ridgely Auto on 10/9/23 to ask for a portion of the costs incurred including all backup documentation with hopes to resolve out of court. Their response said that they needed to have a third party inspect the vehicle which was not feasible as the car was not drivable and moving away from the Honda dealer would cost me even more towing and storage fees. They also said that instead of a monetary settlement, they would replace the engine at his shop, which obviously would have never worked with a car that was located in CA and was not functioning. Reimbursement costs requested Estimated Blue Book value of 2014 Honda CRV (120K Miles): $8,500-$9,500 Less amount paid for unusable vehicle metal scrap: (-$400) Diagnosis Fee: $205 Tow Fee to Honda Service center: $160 Rental Car for period between new car : $271 cost for faulty timing chain installation: $1,722.80 Total: 10,458 - 11,458
