This device is perfect for the home mechanic. I rented one for the week and it sorted out several issues I had on my 2008 Volvo XC90. I set my transmission to relearn after fluid flush, reset my steering position sensor, which made a huge difference, plus it helped me track down traction control and AWD issues. I can't even imagine how much money it saved me. If I need it again, I'm buying it. Dennis JYOUCANIC Response

My Mercedes Hybrid stalled and would not start. The car was towed to a Mercedes Dealership. I was told it was going to cost me $480.00 just to diagnose. A week later I received a call from the dealership and I was told the car needed a hybrid battery and looking at about $14,000.00, the car only had 57,898 miles. I wanted a second opinion so I had the car towed to an independent Benz mechanic. In the meantime I was looking online to see if I could find a used battery and I came across a YouTube YOUCANIC video that was about Mercedes Benz S400 Hybrids and the problems that most common with them. There were several videos and all very informative and helpful made by YouCanic. I send them an email n next day I received a phone call from the person who was actually in the video and I explained to him what had happened and what the dealership had told me. He asked me to send him the codes so I tried getting them from the dealership and they didn’t have them and never gave them to me. I paid $480.00 to have the car diagnosed as to what the issue was and they didn’t have any codes. I ended up having the car scanned again by the shop where I had the car and email YOUCANIC. On Monday I received an email from YouCanic saying the Electronic Control Module was the problem and not the battery. I found a refurbished one that came with a 1 year warranty. YouCanic also told me that I would most likely need a new battery, not a Hybrid battery but the regular car battery. I finally had the control module installed last week and all the code’s disappeared and the car is running great! The cost of everything was a fraction of what I would have paid at the dealership, even if they had diagnosed the issue correctly. I cannot thank YouCanic enough for all the help I received. YouCanic is a great example of a Business that truly cares and has integrity! YouCanic is an alternative and better choice than dealerships.YOUCANIC Response

Jim I am the original owner of a 2010 S400 (hybrid) Mercedes Benz with 90,000 miles in excellent condition. Suddenly the car wouldn't start so I had it towed to the Mercedes Benz dealership. They told me the car needed a power electronic module for $10,500 and they have never installed any. So I searched on YouTube and spoke to multiple people. Without a doubt the most knowledgeable technicians are at YOUCANIC and happen to be in my area. They have worked on numerous S409's. They made me aware that I could need a hybrid battery after the power electronic module install but I monitor my hybrid battery which was at 75%. They repaired my car for a fraction of the dealership cost. Two months later the auxiliary battery malfunction appeared on dashboard. The dealership wanted $500 so I called YOUCANIC was told an easy fix and look at website. Their website gave perfect instructions so I bought battery for $50 and I installed in thirty (30) minutes (I have no experience). If you have a 2010 Mercedes S400 don't waste your time just go to YOUCANIC.comReview from Faisal A

Had been struggling for four days to get an answer to a very simply question, involving "REGISTERING" vs. "CODING" a new battery after installation in 2013 BMW 535i, using an Ancel BM700 scanner. Couldn't find anyone - including the virtually non-existent "customer/product service" people at Ancel Technologies - to help me or even seem understand my question. The people at Youcanic were great! Was able to talk directly over an ancient - but very effective and efficient - telephone, with a living, breathing human being, who understood my question immediately, and was able to clarify for me exactly what I needed to know. Saved me a great deal of aggravation and frustration. Very positive experience!!!Review from ED S

I own a 2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 HYBRID with 56k mile that is in excellent condition. In March of 2021, a battery malfunction appeared on the dashboard. The car would no longer start. I had the car towed to the Mercedes-Benz dealer in Hartford, CT. It took them three weeks to diagnose the car. They said on a voice mail that the Hybrid battery is bad and needs to be replaced. When I went to the MB dealer to talk in person, and they told me that the power electronics module is what's causing the problem, not the Hybrid battery. They gave me an estimated cost of $11,500 to replace the power electronic module. I brought the car to another Mercedes-Benz dealership in North Haven, CT, for a second opinion. ***************** told me that would start from the beginning diagnosing the car, I agreed with them. When the car had arrived at *************, I was told that the parts had been removed by **************, so in order for us to diagnose have to install the parts back, which did cost me another $500-$700 labor before this MB dealership could start diagnosing. I called **************, CT, and asked them why parts had been removed from the car? The answer from them was that we had to remove the parts to diagnose it.
I had the ***************** fix the problem based on the previous MB dealer diagnosis. They told me, "we will call the ************** and get the codes and change the part based on their diagnosis, but we are not responsible if that's not the problem". I received a call back from ***************** and told me that ************** does not have codes for the car because they diagnosed it manually. Long story short, I agreed to change the power electronic module, which set me back $10,000. Yes, $10k. I received a call from ***************** telling me that we changed the power electronic module ($10k bill) and that's it NOT the problem; we diagnosed the car, and it has a bad Hybrid Battery. The quote to replace the Hybrid Battery was $15,000. So the total cost to get the car running again would be $25,000. Double of what the car is worth. I considered buying a used battery and asked if ***************** would replace it. They didn't agree. I did some research online and came across the YOUCANIC website that explains problems with Mercedes-Benz hybrid vehicles. I talked over the phone with one of the technicians there, and they were very helpful and knowledgeable about the issues that MB Hybrid cars are having. They explained the issue in detail more than any MB service advisor ever did. The YOUCANIC team informed me that they had a number of tutorials and instructions on how to perform the hybrid battery replacement. I reached out to local mechanics, but I could not find a single local mechanic that was willing to do the repair. To say I was tired of dealing with the MB dealerships is an understatement. I decided to ship my S400 300 miles to the YOUCANIC garage in Baltimore, where they record all the videos and tutorials they publish. YOUCANIC guys helped me source a hybrid battery at a fraction of the dealer price and they were so helpful they even put it in. I spent four months back and forth with MB dealers, spent $10k, and still had a non-running car. YOUCANIC helped me get the car back on the road in less than a week. From my experience, I found that Mercedes-Benz dealers, even though they are supposed to be the experts, don't have trained staff to work on their hybrid and electric cars. YOUCANIC, on the other hand, has published all the resources any mechanic needs to repair these cars. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend looking at YOUCANIC before taking your car to a Mercedes-Benz dealership. Even if you don't plan on fixing the car yourself, you will at least be informed about the problems and possible repair costs. YOUCANIC guides explain the issue in detail, show how much repairs should reasonably cost at a repair shop plus their tutorials are free.
I write this review because I am afraid that I am not the only one dealing with such issues. Be warned Mercedes-Benz owners with electric and hybrid vehicles.Review from Jason C
