Due to the Gateway Apartment complex's lack of communication with me, an unbeknownst balance was sent to collections in my name. A statement was sent to me and another tenant on January 26th by assistant office manager. Upon verbal agreement, the other tenant was to take care of the balance. I have not been contacted by any staff members from the Gateway Apartments since January 26th. On September 29th, I receive a call from a collections agency saying I have an outstanding, overdue balance with the Gateway Apartments. After multiple calls and emails with the collections agency, they said I should get in contact with the apartment complex to dispute the charge and work something out with them. Initially, I attempted to contact the assistant office manager since that was my last form of contact from the apartment complex. Unsurprisingly, that staff member no longer worked there (a very common occurrence with this apartment complex). After multiple attempts were made to contact the office manager via phone (left voicemails and had staff members have her reach out to me), I was able to have a conversation with the new office manager that ultimately lead to her saying this was out of her hands and that she would contact me about what she could do about the situation. I have emailed back and forth with her and have ultimately hit the same "I'll ask my higher ups" wall. I would love to figure this out with the apartment complex since this is a time sensitive matter. This conundrum could have easily been avoided had anyone from the Gateway Apartments reached out to me. The other tenant has agreed to pay the balance as stated in the notarized document attached should it be taken out of collections. Otherwise, I would like to have my name taken off the lease to avoid this poorly executed event adversely affect my credit that I have worked so hard to build over the years.
