Richard H****** (Westshore) did work for us March through April of 2022 remodeling bathrooms and door installations. When installing exterior door and storm door the installation was incorrect. Richard is a paper contractor that had a subcontractor onsite installing the door (Never made aware of this before starting. Assumed Rick completed work). When completed the installer never mentioned issues with the door as it would not fully close or work properly and was out of plum. Contacting Rick he had no idea and contacted the installer. Installer then stated the door was out of square nothing he could do. Rick returned next day to only try to bend the storm door to make it cosmetically look correct. Over 2 months or so the door has worsened. After other contractor have given estimates we are told the initial exterior door he installed is incorrect making the storm door also incorrect. Rick will not fully correct the issue as this is an installment issue based on our current estimates to repair. It is out guess Rick does not want to admit the fault of improper installation of the both doors started with initial installation of the exterior door. Rick was unprofessional with my wife as well as will not return texts of the issue since 9/20/22

      Business response

      09/27/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2022/09/27) */ ******, I will respond to the allegations made by Mr. **** in order: 1. I am extremely insulted being referred to as paper contractor. I work with my hands on a daily basis, and at no point was it discussed that I would be doing all the work and couldn't have other hourly labor working for me. 2. I can only correct plumb on a door being installed hinge to strike. Mr. **** left out that his exterior wall is over an inch out of plumb which was due to an error made by his builder when the house was built. I made the correction on the storm door vs. the pre-hung unit as the rippers needed between the casing and drywall / jamb and casing will be much more noticeable than the correction made on the storm door by shimming out the brick molding. If they choose to have it re- installed this will be visible. 3. I went back on 9/21/2022 and addressed the concerns. I explained and showed Mrs. **** what I was doing and made further shimming adjustments. There was absolutely no disrespect, she stated the correction looked great and I told her to please call if there were any further concerns. 4. The reason I didn't reply to Mr. ****s last text is because his concern was addressed in prior text. It's clear to me that the expectation is for me to correct the plumb of an exterior wall that I didn't build which is an unreasonable request compounded by the false allegations and derogatory statements. The ****s should contact their home builder and ask him to correct this. I have no interest in returning to this residence. As an act of good faith and not an admission of any wrongdoing, I would offer Mr. and Mrs. **** a refund of $1300.00 which was the contract amount for the door and install. I feel this a more than fair solution. Sincerely, Rick H****** Consumer Response /* (2000, 8, 2022/09/28) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) Mr. H****** can make the check payable to Me or my wife. That is fair for his improper installation as we have to have new doors reinstalled. Mr H****** is also forgetting both doors were installed in correctly as well as he damaged storm door bending it to make it work. Mr. H****** did not address he or his paper contractor sub did not notify us of any issues regarding the plumbness of the door or any issues involving the storm door installation. I had to make Mr H****** aware of this issue after it was installed. Our old door had no closing issues or plumb issues prior to Mr H****** work. We only replaced doors due to age. I am am confused why we had no issues but after his install we did? We accept the payment refund and any other refund Mr. H****** finds suitable for our inconvenience. Our storm door to date does not close or latch without having to be lifted or pulled even after Mr. H****** so called repairs 9/21/22. After he left the door is no different then last install. Consumer Response /* (2000, 17, 2022/09/30) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) This will be excepted with hand written revisions. ************ will not be mentioned as this is between Mr. H****** and Mr. **** in regards to this matter. Agreed resolution once check is cashed and in hand. Otherwise agreement is void and Null. Please refund asap. Consumer Response /* (4200, 24, 2022/10/04) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Thanks ******, We will continue to file with the MHIC complaint department and handle this that way. I had told them Friday this maybe resolved but will continue with complaint to the MD MHIC and PA MHIC. Issues were between myself and Mr. H****** as correspondence was with him and his unprofessional manner of handling. This will prove his paper contractor unprofessionalism and we will handle through proper channels of the MHIC complaint department. Full report of new door installation will be completed and sent to the MHIC as requested to prove Mr. H****** wrongfully installed both doors contributing to the defects. I still accept Mr. H****** offer to reimburse but will be seeking reimbursement as well as replacement of new door we have to purchase if complaint is completed through the MHIC as well as litigation costs. Total between both will be in excess of $4,000 as well as litigation. All we are asking for is Mr. H****** to professionally correct his defects and move on. My wife has is not a part of the issue as well as she prefers to not deal with him based on his actions 9/20/22 of raising his voice while just her and him and his actions. Offer is still acceptable but more will be requested when complaint is completed. I would suggest Mr. H****** follow through with his offer. Issues and defects are between myself and him.
