Very disappointing to see a long standing (apparently) business charge EXTORTIONIST amounts for service (USD 750/visit!) . I called the owner of the company to help fix my residential elevator. I asked a few usual questions and he said that they work with many DC residents and will schedule a visit when convenient. He did and his men came and figured out what they thought was the issue. I asked for an invoice and they said that Jerry (the owner) will do the needful. A few days later Jerry called me and said he had received the part (connector) and will come back to install it once I made the payment for the part and the service call which would amount to USD 1,800 !!!! I nearly fell off my chair. I had an elevator company (access elevator) come for a service call for the same issue and they charged USD150 for the FIRST visit and NOTHING for the second. I have called a few people I know who have elevators and they have never been charged more that USD200/visit. USD 750/visit is extortion. In addition, I get a letter from Jerry two days ago with an invoice (2 weeks after the service) and threatening to go to collections if I don't pay the USD750 service fee within 7 days with no start date! I have no issue paying for service. I have always paid and tipped people for good service and given referrals. USD 150-200 is reasonable. The USD 750 amount was never disclosed to me verbally nor in writing before the service was rendered and therefore I am not obligated to pay. I would assume any supplier would disclose the amount of USD750/visit before the visit? And what if the connector doesn't work I asked...and he said you will have to pay USD750 for every visit until its resolved. Who in their right mind would agree to that?
